OcUK Ryzen 9 3950X review thread

Going by the 3900X release, these are going to sell out instantly. The thirst for 12 and 16-core CPUs is real. Not surprising is Intel can't even compete in this segment.

So reading comments it's looking like people are very pessimistic at getting a CPU next week. So what would you do in my situation. I have all the hardware ready for an X570 Ryzen 3000 build except the CPU.

1) Keep waiting for a 3950X
2) Get a 3300G for the time being at get a 3950X in the new year, then sell my 3300G. (If i can't get a 3950x next week)
3) Get a 3900x and be done with it (really think i'll regret this though)

What would you do?
2)
Assume you meant a 3200/3400G? I'd get a CPU so you can test the rest of the build rather than letting the warranty tick away! Its a bit different if its all ordered together and coming at the same time. Although perhaps go for a 3600/3700 as these will resell easily but be less limited in the meantime.

I think these would be even worse based on Gibbo the amount of processors they have in stock is really low.

3 more days and we will find out!

Indeed the thirst for the multicore processors is too big and most people like me don't need something that big to be honest a 3700x would do it for me going from a Q9550 anything would be better.
4 cores 4 threads worked for me nice but since I build a pc every 11 or so years and i am starting on rendering and programming amongst gaming then I would like to get as much as i can get I guess. I think it was the first threadripper 16core beast 1950x that made me jealous and I wanted to get something like that. Well Monday is coming lets see if i can get me one, and or if i can justify the money to spend on this. Only mobo, cpu and ram left for my build feels like a marathon that started when i got the Vega 56 from ocUK ages ago!

Of course they have limited stock, that's a rule of business create demand by saying there is not many, buy it quick to not miss out. Makes me sick

I don't want to start a war or anything and if it is against any rules mods feel free to delete this.

I stumbled upon the following kotaku article.

https://www.kotaku.com.au/2019/11/amd-ryzen-3950x-3960x-and-3970x-australian-price-and-release-date/

That is australian dollars. Am in calculating this wrong? 3950x price the article mentions $1219 --> £642ish based on a google search for conversion rates? I think that includes 10% tax in Australia so add another 10% for uk on top of that and i think it still lower than £750ish. I guess the article might be wrong we will find out prices on Monday all over the world.

I *was* all for jumping on one of these way back when. Rather happy with the 3800X though. For gaming... don't think there's much need to go higher (no productivity or VM's on this rig), as I understand it, the 3950X is a slightly cherry-picked chiplet, similar to my 3800X (but probably 1 bin higher) and a lower one.

Eh, Ryzen 4/Zen 3 next year for me I think.

If I can grab a 3950X "cheap" I might just do that (albeit unlikely), but if they gonna sell out and/or above £750-800, I will just wait for next year and see what happens.

To get an appropriate answer you really have to say what you will use your build for.
