OcUK Ryzen 9 3950X review thread

So reading comments it's looking like people are very pessimistic at getting a CPU next week. So what would you do in my situation. I have all the hardware ready for an X570 Ryzen 3000 build except the CPU.

1) Keep waiting for a 3950X
2) Get a 3300G for the time being at get a 3950X in the new year, then sell my 3300G. (If i can't get a 3950x next week)
3) Get a 3900x and be done with it (really think i'll regret this though)

What would you do?

Peasant-tier...but you needed to save a tenner? The 3950X isn't meant to be released until the 25th is it?
It was just a joke, very much intended to be tongue-in-cheek. I don't need to save a tenner, it's just always nice, you know ? Anyway, I'm not going to bother returning an order - I look forward to building & getting stuck in with the 3900X for some content-creation stuff.

I would say one, but if it doesn’t show in the first week I would probably buy the cheapest 8 thread CPU second hand to keep cost down, of coursethe problem then comes that it will do most of the job and I might forget to replace it :D

I bought a 2200G second hand only to realise that it wasn't compatible with my motherboard!

Why would you regret it? The 3950x is gonna be a bit faster in rendering etc but not massively so, plus when you upgrade in the future to a cpu with even more cores the bump in performance will be more noticable.

Get a cheap R5 2600 now and then get 3950x next year or even wait for 4000 series. You want to start enjoying your build now, 3300G would be quite limiting. Maybe even just get a 3700x and wait for 4000 series if just gaming, no real benefit for 3900x.

I doubt there are that many people affording a 3950X, particularly when the inflated price becomes apparent as the suppliers have to pay the inflated prices to get them from the grey market. I imagine you have other premium parts already to compliment the 3950X. SO I think I'd wait just a tad longer and try and get in first for the 3950X, then ask where you are in the Queue. If you miss the first batch and have to wait (probably for an unknown amount of time) then I'd plump for the very capable 3700X as they are now £30 below RRP at OCUK and use that until your 3950X materializes and just stay in the queue. The 3600X, 3700X and somewhat the 3800X are the go to gamers CPU's so you'll not have trouble moving it on when the time comes.

Don't think the way OCUK cant decide what they will do with their 3950X's (whether to keep them in house or release to customers) gives confidence to guys like yourself to put the order in with them. Depends how much you want one at the supply/demand price that could be asked for. +£50 I imagine no problem. But +£250? Then sit on a 3700X for a while until you see the 3950X become more available and priced more towards the RRP.

It's taken 6 months to get the 3900X to overcome it's supply issues so if you aren't going to sit in a pre-order queue then I'd prepare for a minimum of 6 months wait for a 3950X.

Good luck and keep an eye out for pre order availability, use a credit card to order from more than one vendor and cancel those that you feel cant confirm their orders. Use the customer reviews to see which suppliers may have delivered. Best of luck.

Someone should start a "3950x owners thread". Only problem is it won't have any posts in it.

May as well start the "4950x owners thread" at the same time.
