OCUK Sandy Bridge, SB-E and Ivy Bridge 5GHZ Club

That's an immense overclock with only an Ultra120 bolted to the cpu! Fair play, immagine what THAT chip would get with 1Day's LN2 setup :)

Not one MHz more. Single Stage cooling or LN2 cooling does not help gain one single MHz with Sandybridge. You can achieve max frequency and bench with your CPU on air or water. Cooling does not gain you anything. ;) Cooling such as SS is used to protect the CPU.

First attempt at 5Ghz. Pretty easy - now to get on with some higher voltages... ;)

Anyone want to estimate a realistic speed for a 2600k with a D14 air cooler and Antec 902 case (fully fitted out with fans and controllers).

Is 4.5 possible?

That super PI run is borked. Have a quick look at the each iteration time taken.

Simon how did your OEM go. I am about to buy a couple more CPU's post a update mate.

Yeah that is the thing with SB you really are playing the wheel of chance with these CPU's - but I would not be surprised if that CPU runs much cooler than the others. That has been the one thing I have noticed. The hotter the CPU at 4.5GHz all auto the better clocker it has been for me.

But then I have only had L04 batches so far.

Think I will wait a bit longer till maybe Friday or so before getting some more.

It is a little cooler, but nothing to really notice.
In many ways it acts the same as my 5.4GHz chip. Everything felt the same up to 5.2 where one just does it and the other wont. I did notice that at 4.8 and 5.0 when I used Prime the 4th core always failed well before a BSOD so I think it may have one core that's weaker than the others... However I tried running 3 cores in the bios and it made no difference.

I'm going to stop trying and wait till the new revision Motherboards then try again.

You will have no trouble at all, i'm running an i7 2600k at 4.8ghz on a Noctua D14 and it is sweet, prime load temps are 65c to 70c max. Most I see in everyday running is when i'm gaming and temps are no higher than 55c to 60c. 4.5 should be a breeze lol.
