look what finally arrived...

only a year late :D

the quality of this panel is incredible. nice work murdermod ;)

it wont be going into the system just yet.
i have a bit of a sidegrade planned as my computing needs have changed a lot in the last few months.

i no longer need the processing power of a 6core hyperthreading monster in the system so will be going for a much more focussed system based on sandy bridge.
this will be primarily aimed at gaming.

well after much messing around today im now on SB

i ripped my entire rig apart and cleaned out my rads, tried installing the murdermod panel which was originally set up for when the rig was white and black [see the op]

guess what. it fits beautifully but the holes for the fittings are an inch too far over this means i cant have it sitting properly :( i am going to install it eventually but it wont fit with my quad rad in the position it is currently in.

after a great deal of swearing i put the system together.

got the intel cloning tool off their site and copied my old C:\ to the new SSD
totally rapid. cannot even comprehend how fast it is. after the initial shock i am sitting at 5ghz with 450mb/s reads on my os drive. couldnt be happier.

it is faster than my gulftown and westmere setups yes.

but that is only because the cpu is at 5ghz and i have a new ssd :D

the cpu is the 2600
couldnt resist :p

How's the temps on that 480 GTX when under load, as I am thinking of getting one and running a similar setup but with the loop going from cpu to a 120 rad at the back then into GPU>res>pump>240 rad and back to cpu

temps are a lot better now. the rads dont have to cool as much stuff down. the x58 mosfets and nb/sb blocks dump a lot of heat into the loop
in comparison SB is cooler but running at 5ghz makes the cpu bump up its temps a lot. i would say on average, the sb cpu at 5ghz is about the same heat output as a gulftown at 4ghz but with the motherboard heat removed from the loop.

my graphics card runs at 900mhz on the core with a slight overvolt. it used to run at above 55'c under load. now it hasnt broken 50'c but i guess now the loop is reversed, the gpu is getting the water first when it is at its coldest, just out of the radiators.

this is all with my fans turned right down of course. i love having a silent pc so the point of the clock is that it has to be sustainable with minimum rpm off the fans. i would guess that every fan is running at about 600-800 rpm.

i tired a stress testing run today with all of the fans on full and it dropped temps on the cpu by 10'c and gpu temps under furmark to 45'c
not bad in my opinioin. the 480 is a superb card under water. especially for the price it is now.

Intel SSD

That is all :)

:D "My name is rjk and I love Intel SSDs"

seriously though, thanks for the help with the system man, couldnt have done it without you ;)

the coolant is mayhems. they seem to have ceased trading by the looks of their website :(
shame, was nice to see some innovation in watercooling.

no gunk in my loops ;)

rjkoneill dropped you a message in trust any, chance you could have a gander please

Cheers

hi mate
aint seen you on here for ages!
havent had any mail off you though

send direct to nvom.rich AT hotmail.co.uk

Looks Very Nice mate! Any reason for going for the Intel 510 over the Vertex 3?

yes, a few things:
1. the intel is nearly as fast.
2. the intel software is epic
3. intels are very reliable and their support is decent.
4. it was out at the time and the vertex wasnt :p

rjk, this is literally the most beautiful pc i have ever seen, i can't stop staring at pics :D very well done!

thanks for that :) more pics uploading now!

well. what a polava

SLI = USS Disaster.

swore i wasnt going to bother with multi GPU again but i have been reading lots about parrallel flow and wanted to try it out.

plus with crysis2 coming out i needed a bit more horsepower to run my monitor.

DSC02400.jpg

got some bitspower SLI connectors to join the two cards.

DSC02401.jpg

few snaps of the interior of the system. had to move the sound card and remove one EK backplate as it was shorting
the board is a UD4 now rather than the pro, going to change again soon so not keeping it in there too long anyway.

not really happy with it how it stands but it was more of an experiment to see if the flow layout worked as well as it should.

here is a gpu temp graph to give you an idea with both cards at stock...
short bash on crysis 2 at 2650X1600 with everything on max - running around like a fool and causing lots of trouble to get the cards working :D
480temps.jpg

GPU temps are identical. really happy i tried this, it looks neater and performs better

I see you're still using compression fittings instead of sellotape for the tubing ;)

Looks nice though.

bitspower disclaimer...

Looking good, what motherboard are you looking to go for as you mention your not keeping it for long.

My i7 system system is coming up for 2 years old and fancy a change!

the board is gonna be swapped out for something different, you will see in time ;)

Hey Rjkoneill can you explain how the flow works with your GFX card and CPU??

Might be cause i'm a bit slow today but can't figure out how the flow works.

flow goes through the bottom card and then the top card and into the cpu
then out and down through both cards back to the res.

the reason it works well is because the gpus get an even amount of flow into each block but the cpu still gets the majority of the flow. the push of the fluid towards the cpu and the pull of the fluid on the cpu outlet means that the flow rate keeps constant.
you need a good pump to do this. i have wanted to try it for ages but just never got round to it.
so glad i did, it has worked really well.

as is the case though, it is still not complete, much more to do at the moment. i just wanted it functioning to test on. the new board will see a few touch ups where i am not happy with bits and bobs but i just dont have the time at the moment

So EK backplate was shorting out on your GPU, is there a reason it was doing that as I just installed one and definatly don't want it to short the card out, as I have not put power to it yet is there anything to check for do you know?

It definatly looks very neat, not seen anything as neat looking as that setup there, well done, i carnt work out the flow either lol

nope it turned out to be my case side panel. but the backplate is off and im not draining the loop AGAIN

so it can stay off till i redo the whole thing

With regards to the inconvenience of having to drain my loop every time I make a change to the loop or upgrade to the system, I finally bit the bullet and bought 3 pairs of Koolance quick-disconnects and installed them at strategic points in my loop. Yep, they're ludicrously expensive but they're a great innovation and the quality of the machining is as good as anything from Bitspower, if not better. I'd recommend using them on your next build and they look pretty cool too.

Can second Mike's QC's recomendation - I've a set of the ultra flow VL4's - SOOO helpful when tweeking your loop / replacing SB mobo :)

cheers for the heads up guys
normally when ever i see them used they are put in ghastly places which make the whole loop look awful.
but that is on Xs where the americans think
"oh, well i paid $50 for these fittings so i had better put them somewhere obvious so everyone can see"

and they look disgusting.
in fairness i have been thinking about a Tline recently or perhaps one of those bezerk looking koolance/dangerden d5 bay res combo things but it would mean putting the 240 in the lower compartment again.

im going to leave it as it is for a bit i think, trying to source a 343b from somewhere to get a big mod done but they are like hens teeth!

Why don't OcUK stock them!?
In fact OcUK's WC hardware seems pretty limited in most departments really :(
RJK, you need to sort that out! (Since you obviously know what you're doing with WC kit) :)

we wont ever do koolance, its too expensive and hard to obtain.
however watercooling is on the up and I am the purchaser for that group. its safe to say, its in safe hands.

Very nice. Where have you mounted the LED Strip? It's giving some cracking light. Really tempted by the tinted side window. Looks pretty good. You got any pictures without the LED strip on with the tinted window and those without? Just bog standard pics without any photography wizardry?

the led is in the roof. top corner closest to the windowed side panel.
the tinted window looks incredible. make sure you get the tinted roof window too as it really completes the look. the pics of the system with the 480 in the whitebox show it perfectly [look a few pages back]

none of my photos have any photoshopping done. i use a £70 sony camera and i cant use photoshop to save my life. :D

may post pics soon of the current setup.
Z68 UD5 board added :)

Why did you sell the luminous panel? (especially for so cheap )
it was sat in my computer room in its box doing nothing.
i cant see myself using it now so it may as well have gone to a good home :)

and I saw the explanation of the GPU tubing bit, but still can't get my head around it
i will explain properly in a thread in watercooling one day. just need a chance to set it up.
google "parallel flow XtremeSystems" and it should give you a better understanding.

And is that an LED strip IN the tubing?
no just the reflection of the leds on the tygon.

Last question... did you get a tinted side panel aswell? I've been hesitating over getting a phobya one :p
my side panel is tinted acrylic. not sure what youre asking here? wasnt even aware that phobya made tj07 accessories.

Just wanted to post saying what a awsome build on your new revision link, cannot believe how quiet it was, all i could hear in the video was you moving around :). Threads like yours realy want me to do a water cooling build :D

thanks for the compliments. hopefully it will inspire you to give it a go :)

Today is a sad day

Today we say goodbye to my GTX480s

the cards have both met an untimely demise and are making their way to RMA heaven.

a full rebuild is on the cards.

pics to follow :)

nope, they just stopped working in sli properly.

i have my system up and running. not ideal but functional

i will post pics of my new hardware when i get a chance

Maximus Z
GTX 590
Ballistix Elite

etc

unfortunately not, a single 590 is more than enough for me
it plays battlefield at max res easily with about the same performance as my 480s

unfortunately not. caselabs are very functional and i do like their cases, but i find them a little uninteresting.

The case is a TJ11, I am unsure what i want to do with it yet, in honesty i have a lot of issues with my car at the moment so i cant invest too much money into restarting my project :(

happy news, i have picked up some new fans today
6 1850rpm gentle typhoons. fantastic fans which are wonderfully quiet at low load on my controller.

they seem to be pushing loads of air on a low speed and my temps are very nice.

I have a Corsair AX750 too which means that i have no PSU fan at idle. ultra quiet computing :)

in addition to these, EK have been kind enough to send me a gtx 590 backplate for my graphics card. it looks superb, thanks to eddy and all the team at EK for your help :)

pictures to follow once i get an outline of what i want to do with this new chassis

:)

nothing at all mate, just fancy a change in all honesty.

since Chris built the XXX system i was keen, just needed spare funds and since my car got chopped in, it meant i had some cash free so why not.

my tj07 is amazing, one of the most amazing cases I have owned.
since I started working at OcUK as a system builder I put loads of them together whenever specialist custom builds came through and I fell in love with it. for a case not much bigger than an antec 902, to have as much capability is rare.

the TJ07 is speicialised, to the point, functional and beautiful and i will be exceptionally sad to see it go. I may even keep it if I can afford to as a lot of hours have gone into mine.

the reason i want to change is really ease of use, my tj07 is FULL, properly full and it means that changing hardware or moving things becomes a royal pain in the rear.

I want a case with a bit more room, considering adding a 120.3 to my arsenal of radiators just for lols.

also I kind of fancy doing a new build and its a tj11 or a LD case.
there really isnt anything else i fancy at the moment that supports my love of radiators.

im still in two minds as my tj07 is mint and its going to be difficult to part with.

also cleeecooo. my D5 runs at 2 now I don't have parallel flow. since removing my 480s and going to a GTX 590, the flow rate has stayed the same and I have managed to keep it on a low setting.

there is literally no noise coming out of my system whilst sat on desktop typing this. which is what I have always wanted.

the TJ11 is being purchased this weekend.

I plan on stripping it down and assessing it properly. taking time to plan the build properly and take a good look at my options.

was thinking about Tharsis Red aurora coolant to accompany my maximus board...
