Oculus Rift with a RTX 4090 FE issues

Rift CV1 works fine with my 4090. I plug the Rift into the HDMI and my monitor into a DisplayPort with a HDMI converter.
Thats interesting, but like I said my rift would work but the problem was me losing signal to my monitor (DP) when I start the oculus software. I had only found one similar problem to mine here https://communityforums.atmeta.com/t5/Get-Help/v1-Oculus-rift-nvidia-gtx-4090-no-support/td-p/997851
But sorted now as I have a Rift S for the time being.
So why are you not using the display port on your monitor & using the HDMI/DP converter instead?

Yes in the UK. You're certainly making a good case for the Quest pro, & your spec list for it sounds great. Would I need to buy the cable for pcvr or does it come with it?
Its deffo something I will consider when the time comes but for now I'm still recovering from the price of the 4090 & the unexpected cost of the Rift S on top lol.
the cable which comes with the quest pro is only for charging....... you will need to either buy a cable (£30 - £90) or use wireless via airlink or bigscreen if you have a good enough wifi for it.
i never thought i would say this after it was initially announced last year but.......... i am edging to getting a quest pro myself.

initially i was worried about all the ones new sealed showing up on ebay but i have been thinking about it..... maybe a load of these were bought by businesses before realising how poor vr still is for actual work productivity and that monitors / face to face or even remote over zoom simply works better?

maybe that explains the new unused devices on ebay.

I bought it off FB marketplace last night for £120 so not really lol. It will do for the time being & I should be able to get a bit of money back when i sell it maybe?

Ah, that's a shame :( I guess £120 isn't a bad price, but, it's such a low resolution headset these days. Not sure what it will be worth in a few months when the Quest 3 is released. You might get £60 for it?

What you should do now is download Oculus Tray tools and up the super sampling to 2 or 2.5 even. In steam leave the resolution per eye at 100%. You could also try turning AWS on or off to see which you prefer.

i agree with bigmike, £120 for a rift s is well worth it imo i had 1 in 2020 i liked it, gives u a cheap way of trying vr.

I was a bit desperate to get things working again & don't really have the budget for a big spend atm right after buying the 4090, buying the Rift S seemed a good way to find out whether I had a problem elsewhere or it was simply a compatibility issue, & fortunately its paid off.
I played a bit of Half Life Alex on max settings last night & I thought it looked pretty good, bearing in mind I don't have the experience of a high quality hmd lol.
By the time I have things paid off the Quest 3 will be out so I will have even more options.
I havent got a lot of knowledge about VR so is the Oculus tray tool a good place to start? I've had it for quite a while just not used it much due to other things irl getting in the way. :/
 
perosnally for now i would just keep things simple, dont install anything you do not have to.... (so install oculus basic stuff and steamVR for steam games which do not natively support the rift)

once you find your feet you can then experiment with apps like tray tool (open composite is another one to get once you know what you are doing.... steamVR is IME pretty poor, so when possible use open composite on steamvr games, it forces games to use openXR which when it is supported runs much better.

With a 4090 you'll be able to supersample/increase the resolution a lot. in the oculus home software, find where the resolution is set (iirc it's somewhere like >devices>settings...) and max it out. also in the oculus debug tool (this is bundled with the oculus home software, the exe file for it is in the oculus directory somewhere, google it) or oculus tray tool (this is a separate download) you'll be able to set the supersampling to atleast 2-2.5 as melmac says. the setting is called the Pixels Per Display or something like that, it's not far off the top.

Simple - I don’t have a DisplayPort on my monitor!

My ‘monitor’ is a big TV, hooked up through an amp - that works really well for 2D stuff and flat gaming. I couldn’t get the Oculus to work when connected by the DisplayPort, so that had to take up the only HDMI I’ve got!

My Rift CV1 has a hdmi connection, are you saying yours has a display port connection?
 
Get a Quest2 for better PCVR, its much clearer than the CV1 although the FOV still sucks.
I've bought myself a Rift S to last me for the time being, when I can afford to upgrade I'll probably look at the Quest 3 & whatever else is about at the time, more towards the end of the year I reckon.

You're in for a treat when Q3 arrives. Pancake lenses and a higher resolution screen will be a quantum leap up from the Rift S.

I see a lot of people saying how the Rift isn't very good, I've been playing with a psvr & the Rift cv1 for a while & the rift looked kinda ok cos It's what I've been used to, so I know I'm gonna be impressed with whatever hmd i do get next, really looking forward to it.
I do plan on getting a psvr2 to go with my ps5 at some point too, although hearing mixed reviews about it atm.
 
No, HDMI.

For me, this works fine:
Oculus -> HDMI
TV -> adapter -> DP

This doesn’t (black screen on Oculus) :
Oculus -> adapter -> DP
TV -> HDMI
the 1st DP to hdmi adapter I bought didn't work with my CV1 however I bought one reccomended to me (it may have been someone on here) and it worked fine.
