Oculus Rift

Palmer Luckey said:
The pre-orders will be global - it's certified in 20 countries - and apparently there's "no chance of Rift pre-orders 'selling out'".

Luckey added: "If enough people pre-order and somehow exhaust all the stock we are building up, later orders will just have a later ship date."

Ha!

its in the shopping cart btw Make sure your Windows PC is Rift ready!
"Download and run the Rift compatibility tool for Windows to find out."

I would have ordered for £400 all in but not at well over £500. Shame really. I guess I'll wait for future iterations.

I think I'll just wait and see how this all pans out now, rather see them confirm that Channel Islands get VAT back before committing any ways.

So my order staus says 'Preorder', but when i try and select payament method and continue i get 'something went wrong'.

So have i ordered or not?

I'm ok with the price, thats the sort of money I usually pay for a graphics card so given that I am willing to slap that down for a graphics card I'm equally willing to slap it down for VR. Not to mention of course that if payment isnt coming out til April, thats just over 170 quid a month to put aside to pay for it. Which is fine with me.

It is a silly early adopters price. Might as well get a Gear VR for £80 and then take a look at what the market has to offer at the end of the summer.

Only useful if you have the s6 though. I agree though, too much for me. I'll just wait till it matures. As much as I'd like it, I'd see myself not using it after a short while anyway. I'll wait it out for reviews, and the release of other similar kits.

Trigger pulled. Been an expensive couple of weeks for computer stuff...

Slightly more expensive than I thought it was going to be (had thought around £479) but hey ho. I was blown away by my DK2 and looking forward to it again.

I find it really odd that people (especially some here) find the price 'too high'.

See, if you said, 'I can't afford that' thats fair enough.

But more often than not, people here are rocking very decent PC's. Saw someone up there with a 980 Ti saying it was too much (sorry to call you out!). If you are okay to drop a significant chunk of change on what basically amount to more frames or prettier graphics... and to be honest its not a massive jump over the cheaper cards but we have done so because we want the best.

And yet... when the Rift is offered for £529 is too much? This is an entirely new and (from what I have heard) incredible way to experience virtual media. Surely this is more worth it than many other things we have bought? Cutting edge graphics cards, curved 4K monitors, etc.

I know I'm generalizing here, but just thought I would make the point.

For me this is a LOT of money, but I'm still paying for it. I'm not sure how you can say something is 'too expensive for what it is giving' when its never been done before...

I've got mine on Pre-order, may cancel it once the Vive dates are announced as that seems like a more interesting product for me.

I'm also going to see if pre-orders sell out or if the hype is real for resell value :D

Too much to take a punt on for me.

I'm going to skip the first generation and wait until the resolution and field of view are upgraded, along with foveated rendering. I might possibly upgrade my phone if a 4k GearVR comes along in the meantime.

For me, it's just not proven tech which makes me nervous when dropping £500. At least with a 980Ti you know what you're getting.

Managed to get through and order now. Difference this time is it added the shipping on, which it wasn't doing before, so maybe that was the fault.
