Oculus Rift

Games or experiences?

Abe is a creepy experience, face your fears, shame the Rift version doesn't have all the same experiences as the GO release.

Is there anything like face your fears kind of scary but a full game?

We was playing dark days the other day and that was a lot of fun, so something like that really that makes you jump.

resident evil 7 would be perfect for me but sadly that is ps vr exclusive.

Had a go on DIRT Rally on an Oculus at Arcade Club in Bury today, which has re-awakened my desire to get VR at home.

I would use it seated right in front of my PC, but standing would be about 3 metres back and to the right, into the centre of the room.

If I had 1 sensor on the left end of my mantelpiece, it would be about right for seated. One on each end of the mantelpiece would be about right for standing. Would it be feasible to use it like this? I assume I'd have to re-calibrate each time I swapped from sitting to standing and back? Is the calibration a long process?

Nah, you can calibrate the sensors fairly quickly.

As for your setup, would the left sensor in 'standing mode' be able to see you in the driving position? If so, you only really need one sensor to see the headset in that scenario, and it doesn't have to be pointing directly at you.
That way, you wouldn't have to recalibrate all the time.

Have a look at the images here for a better idea of their viewing angles.

I've never recalibrated mine for seating as it tends to be ok for just head tracking.

On another note, just had to refund Carnival VR from the humble store (who responded pretty well tbf!) as the steam version does not work with the Rift, you need to purchase it from the actual rift store. The humble store shows it as compatible whereas the steam store states you need the Vive. Pretty easy mistake to make but shows you can never be to careful, im more annoyed at the makers of Carnival for not supporting the Rift via steam, seems pretty shady/amateur!

Thanks. So leave both sensors up anyway, and rely on the left sensor (for standing) to 'see' me when sitting? Mind you, I'll be further to the left than it when I'm sitting. Mind you, mind you - I'll actually still be in range of the right sensor - and in it's line of sight.

Either way, with the reassurance that calibration is quick, I can experiment with placement that works for me.

I now have my Rift, and just playing the robot intro thingy is mindblowing!

Couple of questions: How does the computer decide when to duplicate the view? Just when you're within apps? Doesn't seem to duplicate when I'm in my 'house'.

Is there an easy way to get it to play the sound through the Rift headphones and the computer speakers when you're wanting others to watch what the player is doing?

Also is there any particular reason to buy through the Rift store or Steam? Or just price? Anywhere else to buy things too?

Don’t think you can get it playing through both? Don’t use the rift headphones?

Yeah audio mirroring is an option in the rift settings.

Cheers people, I'll have a look for that.

Another question - and I'm sure I'm doing something stupid here...

When I try to run Project Cars 2 through the headset, it plays it on the 'virtual desktop'. So I can play it, but I'm still doing so by looking at a screen! How do I run it properly?

All I do is launch it in Oculus mode from the pop up box option after pressing play in steam.

Just to clarify, it's showing in virtual desktop mode when you're actually on track? Where are you launching the game from?

I'm not sure if this remains the right thread to use - but any suggestions for must have apps / games / experiences?

I got Beat Saber already, and it seems good fun.
