Oculus Rift

Still got my CV1, fully working. Even has a brand new cable that Oculus gave me after I complained they were not available to buy after my cable broke. All boxed up. Maybe it'll be worth something, someday... :D

I seem to be collecting them for some reason. My original had a headphone issue due to a flexed ribbon cable from the right armature going into the headset, so I picked up a second one for a couple of quid as a donor but found it worked perfectly with a working cable. Then there was one going for a quid this morning with two controllers and two sensors, no headset display, probably cable related. I should be able to fix the cable at work.

I loved those controllers. They were made out of an alloy of Adamantium and Nokia phone plastic. The most robust controllers I've ever used. Very well balanced in your hands and they never lost tracking. They have a few battle scars, and so does my attic ceiling!

If you have a look in the main Meta folder for the TouchNUX app, and then run it with your pro, PCVR stylie, for a trip down memory lane.

I just bought another CV1 fixer-upper for £2.42 plus postage off the bay 'does not display images' Looks like it may be another dodgy cable.

Just a little update. The bay description was 'VR gaming headset' but the images showed the full boxset, so I wasn't sure what I was actually going to win. It turned up in very good condition, the cable is mint and there's still the protective cellophane strips covering the headphone arms, so it's been well looked after. If you look at the image you may notice the lack of cableage going into the headset.

As OCUk don't sell second hand vintage VR gear, I think I'm safe with this linky

The headset connector had come out and been pulled back as far as the cable grip, and was nicely tucked away there. Even Mrs. D asked where the connector should go.
Surely that can't have been the reason for 'no headset display' Well actually it was. Re-connected it and reseated the facial gasket, connected it to the PC and off we go.
Headset, controllers, 2 sensors, mint cable and scratch free lenses all boxed. Slightly disappointed there's nothing to fix. Jazz on the pool deck beckons.

Why did they have to make the Rift headphones so bloody complicated and difficult to unmantle. Geometric locks, springs, hinge pins, screws and glue.

Broken solder joint into the back of the plunger pin.

Hello,

Sorry if this is not the right place to ask this.
Quite late but I'm finally getting round to creating a Meta account to log into my Oculus account.
I admit I have a mildly paranoid personality so I'd like to create it with an email address that is not linked to any of my other accounts.
I'm not paranoid enough to go down the TOR/Darkweb route but does anyone know of a service/way of creating a new email address without having to provide/link an existing address?

I realise this is a drop in the ocean of what they've already collected but it makes me feel a wee bit more comfortable. :)

Thanks.

Do you think you'll ever need to access the email again? For general sign ups I tend to use temp mail but I don't think there's a way to keep that address longer term

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, was looking to leave it active in case of a security breach and I was forced to reset my password.
I guess I could maybe use a temp address when prompted for an existing secondary address.

Have been looking into it and there are some anonymous email providers with free limited options so was wondering if anyone had used one for this specific purpose without problems?
I don't intend using it for anything but logging in to play my existing Oculus games.

Thanks.

Thanks very much for the help petridish and CGrieves but it turned out pointless in the end.
My intention was to create the Meta account first and then link it but there was no obvious option to do so, maybe I missed it.
There was also no way to log into my Oculus account any more to change my email address before or during migration so it just automatically used the existing address.

Thanks again anyway.

I used proton mail to create accounts for setting up Oculus with facebook etc, should be fine as long as nothings changed recently.

I recently switched the Facebook account that I had to create for Q2 and which was used for nothing else to protonmail, as someone kept trying to log on to it. I must get around to deleting it as I only kept it around in case the Meta account conversion went wrong.

Okay, I've got to stop buying working Rift CV1 headsets. £7.50 plus postage. Scratch free lenses, faultless headphones, and if you look closely at the image, a VR cover facial interface.
Tidy.

It's almost worth buying one to get the headphones. With 3D printed mounts and some easy wiring they're one of the best audio solutions for VR.

If the optics weren't working I'd agree. But now I'm listening to jazz in the old home room next to to the infinity pool and watching the comet zip away from the moon. Nice......
