Oculus Rift

So what do ppl think the price will be when it comes out, if its about the same as nvidia 3d vision then thats me out as thats already too expensive. If its under 100 quid then perhaps somit like 50 to 60 quid would be ideal but i doubt it really would be that low. Still i dream i guess lol.

Tho tbh if i couldnt stand real 3d in the cinema when i went in march to pics which was my first 3d film btw then i duno if i could even use the oculus rift. As i couldnt focus during fast scenes just very slow ones, i kept feeling cockeyed when it was fast tho i was using my old glasses at the time and just got a new pair so maybe that would fix 3d for me i dunno.

I guess they might have demo units in retail stores i dunno but i hope they do so i can try a few games out before i bought one just to see if i could use it with the way my eyes were in that 3d film.

I think you'll be disappointed with the price. I'm guessing between £250 and £350.

Will need better screen (which it will), lense control (cheap and easy), and translational movement (drivers) :) Don't know why they didn't just go the track IR route. Much cheaper, no drift problems, and good enough for desktop computing.

Looks awesome. Just needs higher res and as much reduction in latency as they can get with the consumer model.

The latency looks good so far but the res is a bit of a dissapointment. If it's the same in the consumer model i think'll i'll skip it and wait for version2 that will no doubt come

The consumer verson will have 1080p and weigh a bit less than the dev kit.

I'm guessing around £200-£250 for the finale verson, they did say they were aiming for around the £180 mark but I doubt they will hit that.

The developer kit was $300 so I would guess at £199 for the consumer version when you consider the usual dodgy USD to GBP conversion rate when it comes to hardware.

I would say 720p is more realistic. They need high refresh rates, low latency, no ghosting, and massive DPI. These don't come cheap, and Occulus would be at the bottom of the pile as far as suppliers are concerned. Maybe an interchangeable screen. Not sure about the feasibility of that, especially at the £200 mark.

Here is the forum for the Oculus Rift where you can keep up to date with the development of the goggles and stuff.

http://oculusrift.com/

Its still early days and the final consumer version will have a higher res screen, i think the razor folks are jumping in too...saying that just about everyone is jumping in on it as far i can see...which is a good thing for the technology..Unreal also getting Rift support. Its deffo gonna be the next HUGE thing me thinks, everyone is jumping on it.

A list of Oculus games in development...

If they get support for Bethesda TES/FO for launch then I'd buy one straight away.

If not, I'll hang on for support before getting one.

Shouldnt people be getting their dev kits about now? Would be interesting to see someone having a go with these for a bit - im a bit worried about motion sickness, everyone whose got a go of this seems to spend only a short amount of time on it.

Would be nice for driving games, arma, star trek online maybe i dunno, could be nice for a lot of things. As well as virtual porn hehe, come on we were all thinking it. :D

What i do worry about is when the game should use it and shouldnt. As in the video above for tf2 when ppl use a scope to snipe with it was very unusable. So hopefully game devs will find someway to turn off the oculus when it needs to in certain circumstances.

Meant to be part of the consumer unit but here's someone playing with full positional tracking by attaching a Razer Hydra to the back of the unit.

Looks amazing :)

Theres some youtube vids of ppl having the dev kit if u search for it using seach by this week and maybe month.

Btw im just wondering, how will 2d games be with this device. As there are a canny few decent 2d games out there and wonder how that might work with the oculus.

Btw that vid with the razor thing looks mint. Now all we need are power gloves and maybe power boots to simulate your hands and feet in the virtual world that when you move em you can see em copied the movements in the game and hopefully interact as well with em like pick stuff up if you go over and pick it up it does it the way it should instead of using premade animations. Damn that would be awesome.

This would be insane - buttkicker for vehicles, some kind of haptic feedback for fps. Guns with positional tracking - dont the have this already for wii? I can see lots of injuries as people go crashing into stuff, better get those disclaimers water tight!

Not the most ideal solution but the "reactive grip" by Tactical Haptics (currently an addon for the Razer Hydra system) has some potential for this as well.
