Oculus Rift

Been looking at the Vive aswell myself. Havent owned a rift but I'm very interested in VR after having tried it on my phone. The Vive has interested me much than the rest with the ability to actually move around freely which I think is a step ahead of the normal VR. It wont be for everyone though as a lot wont have the room but for me its way more exciting. Plus the fact its available first this year around Christmas time means ill probably go for that.

Yep it's all working fine in Windows 10 for me...although games are going to need to be patched to support the new interfaces.

I read that the Vive has slipped to Q1 2016 now so it'll be real interesting have both hit the market around the same time!

^that's hilarious, I'm at work so can't watch with sound but I'm still getting funny looks because I burst out laughing :p

I know this is Vive rather than Rift but thought some of you might like this.
I started watching it earlier and wondered why he was spending so long filming his room with all the QR codes on the walls... :o
Obv the portal section is great but for me the final part in the great outdoors with the environmental sounds was just outstanding.

I've always liked my rooms at home to have lots of stuff in - I hate sparse rooms, but think I'm going to need a change of style when the Vive comes out. Gonna needs me spaces

oh yes, the vid:

Photogrammetry like that is certainly not some Vive-exclusive thing.

But yea, it's some really incredible stuff. Definitely the future of life-like environments in gaming/VR. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter uses it to good effect, and it's also been heavily used in Stars Wars Battlefront coming up. So it doesn't necessarily mean replication of real life locations, it can also just be used to create really life-like assets.

I am just stupidly excited about this.

i will be one of many buying VR when it comes out next year.

Dk 1 i hated
Dk 2 not too bad
Gear VR was ok for what it was but it was a little clue into what will be coming in 2016

I think DK2 is closer to what to expect from consumer headsets than GearVR, unless you're purely talking perceived resolution. In which case CV1 will probably not be a massive jump forward there apart from better optics with a much larger sweetspot.

It will have a *ton* of other improvements, but resolution will not be a massive jump from DK2. Same goes for any of the other main headsets(Vive, PSVR).

Oculus should have tried to release it for the holiday season or even summer. Now HTC Vive looks like it will be first to market.

I am going to pick up both the Vive and Rift and then keep which one is most suitable for me. Then after that will get a HoloLens when that comes out :D

Oculus are trying to do a full scale launch, not a soft launch like HTC. They also want to make sure there is a good software line-up ready for Day 1. Good strategy, if you ask me.

As for Hololens, you'll probably be waiting quite a while, unless you want one of the $3000 developer kits you can apply for next year:

In no rush to be honest. They come out when they come out. When they do, I will buy them :D

Also, by the time Rift has a full launch, so will Vive anyway. In the mean time I will get my hands on Vive and enjoy that. I skipped DK1 and 2 as I wanted to fully enjoy the consumer version of a VR set, not long now
