Neural Impulse Actuator- The Future of Immersive Gaming
OCZ saw an exciting opportunity to enhance the gaming experience and take PC gameplay to new heights. The NIA is not a replacement for a mouse but rather a pioneering new peripheral designed to provide an immersive experience for gamers. The NIA is the first commercially available BCI (brain-computer interface) specifically for PC gamers. “Advances in hardware and software allow today’s games to offer consumers an exceptional entertainment experience, and we wanted to take the next step by immersing gamers into these environments with the innovative new NIA,” stated Ryan Petersen, CEO of the OCZ Technology Group. “The NIA radically changes the ways that gamers can interact and control elements within games, and can be configured in a matter of minutes for any game that is already published or will be released.” The commands are easily assigned with the NIA’s user-friendly software and are calibrated based on the individual’s physiology and personal preferences. Each of the Actuator’s signals can be assigned to a specific keystroke on the keyboard or a mouse button; consequentially, gamers can run, jump, and fire faster all without “lifting a finger.” Because the NIA converts EEG (electroencephalograph) signals into specified keystrokes, the device can be used with any software.

Upon proper configuration, the NIA will allow users to control PC games without the use of a keyboard and minimal use of a mouse. The final version of the NIA uses a sleek metal housing, a USB 2.0 interface, and streamlined headband with carbon “dry” interface sensors.

If these work - WOW...

actually they do work. and actually quite well from what ive read. priced at £84.99 (i think). though im sure there is another thread on this

saw an article in PC Gamer about them, looking @ £150 apparently. if it cost half that i might have considered it for the novelty value... but otherwise, im going to pass. :)

Wouldn't that take away from those that can master using a mouse? It's part of the difficulty in excelling at a e.g. first person shooter. I.e. the skill involved in aiming and firing at the right time.

It'd be too easy if it's *THINK : "Aim for head, shoot, aim for guy on left's head, shoot, aim for guy on right's head, shoot"* etc.

it wouldn't be like that at all.

it would be, aim up... little bit higher and to the right... fire!

Is it just me who thinks this technology properly working as advertised would cost a little more than 85 quid?

I remember reading in a review it worked better if you frowned when you wanted to fire. Doesn't sound very neural to me. Guilty until proven innocent, and i shant be paying £85 to find out!

It works like this, for example in UT3, you still look around with the mouse, but concentrate to jump, concentrate harder to shoot etc. Which sucks. I don't think it would be anything more than 5 mins of fun tbh. Still interesting though.

I have ordered mine.

Tobe fair it doesn't read your mind,it worksvia the muscles and there movement in your forehead.

My understanding is that you use the WASD as normal for example. You train the OCZ NIA to perform such things as "knife, flash, grenade" etc in COD4.

You basically map keys and your "thoughts" press them.

Very keen to hear a user review of these, even if just for novelty value.

I always wanted to play at being Lawnmower Man!

I thought all these do was make you aim nothing more.

No you map keys like I said above,I used COD4 as an example but there is nothing to stop you thinking "Gear up/down" in FSX for example and have it raise or lower the undercarriage.

In WoW for example you could easily configure it to cast certain spells or pots.
