You're right, you're right - it's completely unbelievable that I'd find the 535d hard to park! After his last reply I am now 99% sure he's having us all on.
The Astra is a hire/courtesy car from Enterprise while my 535d is having it wheels refurbished. I am not happy about it to be honest. Let me give you a run-down of events:
- I find big chunks flaking off my wheels, take photos, and send to the BMW dealer on May 30th
- A few days later we discuss over the phone and they admit they had a smart repair done that has clearly gone wrong, and ask if I wanted to choose my own repairer and if so, send the quotes over.
- I send two quotes from refurbishers that I trust within a couple of days - he sends them to the bodyshop manager for review.
- 11 days pass and I chase up whether the bodyshop manager has reviewed them. Dealer replies that day saying can I send the contact details of the preferred repairer... that I included with the quotes. I send all the details again and call out that if the repair will take more then 1 day I will need alternative transport. He sends the details to the bodyshop manager.
- 2 days later I call and they have agreed to repair at my preferred refurbisher to the tune of £510. Payment will be made directly and I won't have to hand over any money, and the wheel refurbisher apparently knows this.
- I contact the wheel refurbisher and they are waiting on a cheque.
- 12 days later the wheel refurbisher gets in contact to say they have the cheque, but they have no means to provide me any alternative transport or temporary wheels and the repair will take 3 days. I contact BMW about this, reminding them about my request for alternative transport 2 weeks prior.
- BMW get back to me 7 days later to say they can't help as they aren't doing the repair. Cue me going spare.
- Argument ensues over email involving the dealer and the used car manager, resulting in me quoting the appropriate section of the Act of Parliament I will be invoking my statutory rights under to reject the car. Much debate over their "reasonable time to repair" that I refute as our contract isn't covered by the SoGA.
- BMW Plymouth contact the local dealer to arrange a hire car at a cost of £110.
Overall I'm very disappointed. I get my car back today and it will be more than 6.5 weeks since I reported the problem. I've had to personally send over 40 and receive over 20 emails on the subject, make several phone calls, make legal threats and take time out of my day to visit one of the wheel refurbishers for the quote. To top it off, I get put in an Astra for 3 days. I couldn't even pay out of my own pocket to upgrade as Enterprise can't insure me on anything greater than Astra sized.
