If you really want to lower yourself to Fox's level of pedanticness you could point out that manual E38s are available on the continent. It wasn't specified that the car had to be RHD ;)

725tds & 740d's - plenty of them when I was over in Spain recently not so sure re: manual V8 petrols so opted no to go there....;):D

I dunno, the 5 is rather gorgeous, but I think they're a bit large and a bit wafty maybe?

What about a porsche 944 S2? They seem to be in budget, but I guess insurance would be fairly ridiculous maybe? Anyone got any expirience of these? Come back DM!

Right, I've done a bit of research on insurance. I'm insured with the Admiral group, but Admiral themselves are quoting nearly half what I was quoted with my current insurer, despite them being the same company and using the same details. I'm thinking about calling up and having a moan see if they'll match it, but...

The question is - Do I bother? The car I'm purposing to insure is rubbish. I drove it to the lock up earlier this week. Its got a nasty top end rattle, over fuelling for fun, not holding an idle properly, has a battery drain and is generally a bit shagged. I don't like the car, I'm not going to enjoy driving it and I'm certainly not going to chuck money on fixing it. I am also barely going to drive it, like literally its going to get me to Tesco and back once a week and that's it. Is it worth keeping my NCB ticking over for the cost of £80/£90 a month? I've got 5 months or so left on the policy.

I'm in two minds. When I come out of this rough patch I'm going to want something nice and another year's NCB would be handy, but I really cost do with that extra couple of quid in my pocket, plus the fact that I have to tax it and sort out an MOT for the A4 in a matter of a few months.

A bit wafty perhaps, world away from an e30 thats for sure.....

Wafty yes compared to an e30 (have you tried one?) but a different league of build & refinement - I'd wager you'll make better progress in the e39.

Relatively cheap to buy, tread carefully buying and you could drop on a real peach. - You could say that for both an e39 and a Porsche 944.

Running them is the killer..... :D

As for insurance, without quotes, you'll never know, you may be surprised (or equally shocked!) by the quote.....

Joshy, I'd be inclined (if I could afford) to keep it up....

:)

Never driven an E39 no, I might see if there is one in the garage where I got my E30, they're pretty nice chaps, should get a test drive no problems.

This is all a bit far off I suppose, the earliest I'll be getting a car is February, this is good and bad, I get lots of time to decide, but am likely to change my mind lots!!

If only these were half the price:P! I was sick in my mouth a little when I saw those seats tho.

This however - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2985865.htm is lovely, but by god what have the done with that interior? I think I can hear baby jesus crying from here! Hopefully they do a black one, or something to make it less hideous:/.

Edit - Oh now this is a nicer one:D

I'll be 25 by the time I come to insure these things, this means I could go with a proper classic insurer on a limited mileage policy. Anyone got one of these, did it cost a lot less? I've heard you can get some really cheap rates on these things...

Preparing to be shot down by the purists about, but what is the general opinion on these? I've seen a few about and they look quite nice in the flesh but I'm not sure I could handle changing mine from stock... even though it would look quite nice on Saphire Black, although I'd then have to change the M5 badge to the black & grey one too.

It's difficult to say without seeing them on the car, but I get a feeling that they will look cheap, tacky and chavy.

Got any pictures of them on a car? I suppose it's not a big job to change them back if you want to try them...

I've seen a few cars with those carbon badges on and they look absolutely horrible.

I've also seen some with the M logo in the centre part of the badge, which looked even worse!

I've seen a few different ones around on quite a few different BMWs and some do look quite plastic and nasty, but others have a nice metalic look and the carbon is really noticable. I've done a bit of googling and there are quite a range you can buy - some are stupid money just for some badges though.

I think they look good on a black car.

Yeah I agree, I've seen some on silver cars as well which don't look too bad either but the black really set them off.

I'm debating whether to go for it, I suppose if I do and they look crap I can always swap them back.

Another issue would be finding and changing the M5 badges on the grills and also the //M badges on the wheels. Probably not worth the effort unless I can find decent quality ones for every badge I guess.

You drive a 2007 M5 not an ex fleet 520d with a bodykit.

Stop it.

Slow down missy. It's just some colour matching badges, not some 7up window decals or cherry bomb exhaust.

It's tacky, crappy bling. Its exactly the sort of rubbish you see on those BMW's covered in Ebay rubbish with fake wheels off Ebay, Linglong tyres, etc etc.

You are better than that.
