Offended... by the Simpsons!

I'm outraged by this whole thing! I will be writing a letter to the Daily Mail immeadiately!

Edit :- Too slow! Damn, I'll have to find something else to complain about!

get back to me when you have lived it, then you can judge people, but trust me, laughter is the best medicine.

My friend was killed by the Omagh bomb, an old schoolmate is married to a girl blinded by the bomb, my ex girlfriend had a lump the size of a grapefruit blown from her stomach. I could go on, but you get the point.

If you dwell on these things, they will eat you up. trivialising the violence in many ways takes away it's power, which lies in fear.

Well thats your opinion, im not sure its possible to talk in absolutes when it comes to stuff like peoples lives.

Yup, IRA bombings are nothing to get upset about at all! Its not like a nail encrutsted explosive device going off next to you while your having a quiet pint in the pub is anything to worry about!!

It was a JOKE. Jokes often entail poking fun at someone, be it the disabled, different races, nationalities, a deity etc etc. If everyone started to offense to every joke then the world would be completely screwed. Take it for what it is, a JOKE, and leave it at that.

I like a joke as much as the next, and i like a lot of edgy comedy. But stuff like the holocaust or certain events/bombings should be held sacrosant lest the message be forgotten and nothing is learnt from the past, thats my view anyway.

OMG offense from a cartoon, mad muslims the lot of ya. get big white dog in here, he will set us all straight with his anti Irish gibbering.

Why can't people take offence from a cartoon? Regardless of how it is presented, it's still making fun of events that happened in quite recent history which are sensitive memories for a lot of people who were affected by it.

At least we aren't going around burning Irish/American Embassies and flags as a result of it though. :)

It would be different if it portrayed a building in london being blown up, but really all it showed was a flag being blown up. It was obvious what it was hinting at though.

I think its my right to make an offensive cartoon just as it is my right to breathe air, it's a cartoon for christs sake and if its done to be funny then I know where people can stick their complaints.

It's perfectly OK to be offended by a cartoon. It'd be an infringement of freedom of expression to say otherwise. However, cartoons should not be prohibited from offending.

In this case, usual rules will apply. C4 clearly think it's OK to broadcast, but if enough people complain, they will apologise. Business as usual.

In other news, the Simpsons has been offending people for many, many years.
