Why exactly?

Why would anyone need a Core at 600-700mhz to surf WWW, type a .Doc or watch a movie ?.

The card runs far cooler and that means I can slow down all case fans and the temp controled fan in PSU will also run slower as sucking in less heat from case.

If the cards were like the 6800Ultras, I would even lower the 2D voltage in the bios but it aint possible.

It also IMO balances out the fact I run it overclocked while in 3D mode.

I knock the 2900pro down to 300Mhz core and 350Mhz memory for the same reason. Also push the volts way down 1.150v down to 0.900 I would go further down but this is stable and I can't be bothered with my core crapping out because I've went too low. I also undervolt my memory and memory buffers for a cool (as in temp) movie watching/surfing/listening to music periods.

It takes seconds to do and well worth it IMO.

Can you say by how much it reduces power. I know it alters temp because it does just the same on a cpu though voltage is still more important.

Who knows, I live across the river for a Nuke Power Station so power is cheap, its less heat I want outside games because that ='s less fan RPM for me for peace and quiet.

If the 8000's bios was editable and worked same as 6000's I would have done it long ago to lower volts to core on 2D and raise on 3D.
