***OFFICAL*** Left 4 Dead Thread!

Link, which plug-in causes players to randomly spawn as infected even though they are playing a co-op game? I need to sort this out on 7 as it happens quite frequently. Ta.

Back from hols next week.... have I missed much? Anything I need to get installed when I get home?

See Links thread here for his servers and which maps are installed + other maps to try but are not installed on the servers.

For the other servers, maps and a list of plug-ins installed on each server (you don't need to install the plug-ins on your local machines btw, this is just for info) go here.

If you only download one map, I recommend Heaven Can Wait at the moment.

Cheers mate. I'll get things sorted when I get back home - should be back on early next week sometime !

Remove the downtown extension. Note this will kill the manual version of cevolink and the other configs. The automatic version will still operate however so contact me if you need help in getting that working.

The downtown extension can be found in the sourcemod folder, within the extensions and data folders within that.

Can anyone here give me any tips in vs? I just cant seem to do well in it. I got no problems in coop, but vs I really let my team down as i play so badly :( .
I only recently started playing vs, i only used to play coop. When I first got this game I played vs. Maybe it was because my team (inc me) were crap that we got wiped within a few meters of leaving our safe house. Since then I never touched it, but recently i gave it a try and both teams were more evenly match and i had fun, dispite playing god awful.

Tips are generally the same as expert coop.

Survivors:
1) Stay close to your teamates
2) Be vigilant
3) Don't chase infected alone

Infected:
1) Attack together, (except possibly the boomer who can get the others more time to spawn with a successful boom).
2) Try for high pounce damage as hunter but if you miss, leap straight onto the nearest (or furthest) survivor
3) Pick on lone survivors

Both:
1) Listen to advice from teamates (that's advice, not orders)
2) Learn the best infected ambush spots

That's all I can think of for now...

Or just make sure you join Forgetful Fish's team and don't join Dingleberry, Link, Defrag, Buckz, Sharpy or Scooby's team and you will be successful.:D

Just need 1 more achievement now but its proving difficult to get. 'Lambs to slaughter' I'm not sure how I'm supposed to incap a survivor after leaving the safe room as they tend to just run in and close the door. I tried pulling them out with smoker but they just shoot me. Any tips?

Stop being an achievement whore and play the game?

Failing that incap someone just far enough outside the room for them to want to come out and far enough to incap people.

you'll only get this from playing the games like a normal person, we had 3 come out the room before to revive one against 2 of us and we harrassed them enough for the other 2 to spawn and ended up wiping them out

My map is coming along nicely - should be ready for testing in a few days :) it's a real knacker though - and an obvious first map while I work on some of the intricacies involved. Link has already volunteered to test (well, persuaded, really) so he can be the main judge as to whether I should bother continuing or not :)

On the playing front, 8v8s are such chaos - I think that's why I love them. I think it's great playing as the survivors when everything turns to **** and there are people screaming on voice comms :D

I have been playing like a normal person? Well if joining random games by clicking the quick match is considered normal?

:D Well to be fair i do play the game, 130 hours so far. Its just my mate got 58/58 and the competitive side of me wont let it lie until i have 58 lol. Just a bit of fun at the end of the day.

make sure you and your team mates all have mics and USE IT! Communication is very important in vs. As infected, attack together rather than on your own. And don't sweat if you make any stupid mistakes, IMO that's what makes a fun game :) just don't expect to kick ass straight away. Observe other players behaviours. Practise makes perfect :)

General Tips

  • Listen to your fellow teammates. No doubt if you're reading this your either new to L4D or your new to some aspect of L4D - perhaps vs mode, in that case use your teams experience to guide you. No-one should be 'ordering' you about like a little soldier, but they should be giving you tips on where the best place to stand or attack is. If you choose not to listen and continue to do your own thing, thats fine - but don't expect to get many invites!
  • For the love of god, enjoy the game for what it is - a game, don't rage quit on your team because it's not going your way, don't moan about your fellow players - we all make mistakes and above all have fun and enjoy playing with the decent people of OcUK L4D players.

Survivor Tips

  • The number 1 rule and without a doubt the most important rule for L4D (co-op, survival and versus) is to work together as a team.
  • Stick together (there is an exception to this rule in certain circumstances, but thats for advanced players!) this is important as the infected love to pick off stranded or seperated survivors.
  • Mics play an important role also, without them you will have to stop, type and then continue - more often than not thats too late and you've already been murdered by a hunter!
  • Sticking together also has the added advantage of massive firepower potential should you come face to face with a witch or tank.
  • Its a good idea to plan where you are stood in the group as you move forward, plan whos going to check behind for sneaky hunter swipes!
  • Plan ahead of time where you're going to be best placed to defend a panic event and move quickly when it's over.
  • Close those doors - at every opportunity close any doors after you've swept the room for goodies, this is where the infected are going to spawn and if they have to knock down a door before they can attack, then you'll know it's coming.
  • If you're being battered from every angle by common infected, don't stand there and take it - crouch and let your fellow teammates blast over your head to clear a path.
  • Use natural choke points to your advantage - forcing the common infected through a doorway will ultimately lead to their swift demise, use it whenever possible.
  • Sharing - it's much better to keep all your team alive as fewer numbers gives the Special Infected a numerical advantage. Give out pills and heal whenever a teammate requires it and don't hog them all.
  • Ensure you're equiped for the job, plan whos taking what weapon as much as possible. If you all have shotguns, then a smoker will be able to laugh off most shots from distance. However, if you all have the hunting rifle, dealing with close range enemies will be very dfficult.
  • Use pickups to save your limited supply of molotovs and pipebombs - littered around the maps are white gas canisters, fuel cans and oxygen tanks - use them all to your advantage.

Infected Tips

  • A combined attack by all four players can be devastating. There are combinations of special infected known as 'death squads' that will have a major impact on a survivors chance of making it to the safe house. A 'Death Sqaud' is refered to as a Special Infected team that has the potential to capture all survivors at once, e.g. 4 x Hunters or 3 x Hunters and a Smoker. Even if the attack is unsuccesful in capturing all the survivors, quite often the damage dealt is severe.
  • The infected all make noises in varying degrees. The hunter growls when crouching ready to pounce, the boomer emits a disturbing gurgling sound and the smoker coughs and splutters. These can all be heard by the survivors so the timing of your spawn should be left as late as possible. With the hunter it is possible to spawn and then position yourself without being heard - it sometimes even pays to sneak up behind an unwary survivor and scratch them for 6hp!
  • Split the survivors up, if you can corner one or two survivors with a tank, let the remaining team members attack the ones out in the open.
  • When you get control of the tank - take your time. Rushing in often gets you killed within a few seconds, especially if the survivors all have tier 2 weapons (auto-shotty, m4, hunting rifle). Pick them off with rocks and or cars, dumpsters or fork-lift trucks. Avoid the fire at all costs, oh and did I mention "Take Your Time". Too often people rush in with a tank and do less damage than a wet fart in an elevator.
  • Use your special infected abilities to the maximum. Pounce from as high as possible as the hunter (max 25hp damage on most servers), try to shower the entire team in boomer bile (the more you get the better chance your team mates have of picking of a stranded player) and use the length of the smoker tongue to the maximum or pull someone off a ledge so they instantly become incapped and unable to help their teammates.
  • Get the prone survivors, if your fellow boomer has hit all but one of the survivors with bile, target the one that hasn't been covered in goo (has not been turned purple in your HUD). Chances are that the other 3 are so occupied in dealing with the onslaught of common infected they won't notice you have pounced the unsuspecting player until its too late or at the very least you'll have dealt some worthwhile damage.
