***OFFICAL*** Left 4 Dead Thread!

i think most people on here will be buying it as most seem to have hundereds of hours played so it works out to be pretty good value really. I cant see the point in people moaning really, yes i know valve promised more dlc that we have been given but people are basing the boycotting on that after l4d2 is released that valve will dump l4d in favour of the sequel which they have always said they will develop for it.

Glad you fixed it, for anyone else having the issue - the following fixed it for me.

Code: 
This fix should correct the following issues:

* Servers in Steam/in Steam games suffer ping 'spikes'
* Difficulty/Inability to connect to servers
* Use of Steam/Steam games causes the BeBox to freeze/stall/restart (crash)
* Loss of connection to servers, or timeouts
* Poor performance ('lag') in servers

If you are having problems with the fix supplied below then please post in this thread and I will try to help, but I will not be held responsible for any damage to Be equipment etc. You know the drill.

This fix involves editing the user.ini file to change configuration. of the BeBox. This can also be done through telnet but I recommend it be done this way as I ran into problems trying the fix via telnet.

1. Follow this link to the router configuartion page:
[http://192.168.1.254/cgi/b/bandr/?ce=1&be=0&l0=0&l1=1&tid=BACKUP_RESTORE]

2.Enter username & password (default is Administrator, with password left blank)

3. Select Backup Configuration Now.... Don't close this window

You should now have a user.ini file containing your router configuration options.

4. Open it in Notepad. Go to Edit , Find and search for appconfig application=GAME(UDP)

You should see three entries regarding UDP. You need to change them to:

 appconfig application=GAME(UDP) trace=enabled timeout=3
 appconfig application=CONE(UDP) trace=enabled timeout=3
 appconfig application=LOOSE(UDP) trace=enabled timeout=3

Now again, go to Edit , Find and this time search for timerconfig timer=udpidle

You should change this entry to:

timerconfig timer=udpidle value=3

5. Save that user.ini file to the desktop. Switch back to the Speedtouch router page and select Restore Configuration Now....

6. Use the router dialog to locate and select the user.ini file that you have modified. The router should upload the file.

7. Once configuration is uploaded, restart your router and all 'Connection Problem' or Server list crashes or Restarting of the BeBox due to UDP flooding in CSS and other games should be FIXED.

Cant believe I've spent hours uninstalling-re-instaiing when it was something so simple :)

Why boycot L4D2?

L4D2 is a another game, it stands on its own. When you go and see Transformers then 1-2 years later the sequel comes out you don't hear people saying they are going to boycot it just because they have to pay to see it or it was released too soon after the first. You only hear people saying they will boycot it as the first one was pants :D Or all the FEAR games released one after the other in close succession, expansion packs and FEAR 2 all had to be paid for.

Anyway, I don't care if it is 6 months, 1 year or 2 years since L4D was released. I am buying it as it is not just a few extra bits of DLC. Didn't Valve say it has 5 complete new campaigns all playable on verses and then you have all the extra gameplay tweaks and A.I.2.

I can almost gaurantee that the vast majority saying they will boycot this game will be the first to buy it when it is released.

This is a situation of cutting of your nose to spite your face, childish and just plain spastic. Along with the fact that probably most of the people saying they will boycot the game are the loud mouthed prats you try and avoid online, along with being RQ's. So the more of them boycot the game the better the gaming experience will be for us all.

I cant understand anyone boycotting a sequel to a game they love, if I were to look at how much the first one cost me to how many hours I've played it it must equate to less than a penny an hour. I wont be boycotting it, I just consider it DLC that i have to pay for which I'm more than happy to do tbh.
 
1 thing i wont like about L4D2 is the new characters, i want good old Bill, Francis, Zoey and louis... ok louis i dont mind gettin rid of :D :D :D
 
No doubt in my mind that I'll be buying L4D2 when it comes out. L4D has easily been my most played game in the last 12 months and I think L4D2 will get a lot of my attention as well. The last week has been quiet, but hopefully there will be a little time this week to get stuck in (and work on my map too).

LOL, same here. Well i wouldn't mind getting rid of Francis, Bill and Louis. Zoey will be sorely missed though :(;).
 
My bet is the release a suprise 8v8 player mode and the other characters are the Vanilla bunch.

The game is already modded to support 8v8 players with no real issues.

Also I noticed if you order from some sites you get a baseball bat and beta code!

Naw seriously, I was gonna buy this game tomorrow.

Do you guys think it's worthwhile for £20 as my bro is gonna get it on the same day or should I just stick my cash down on the sequel and make do with TF2 in the meantime?

good point i guess Francis is kinda stupid come to think of it, and bill is gettin old he'll probly be dead by the time L4D2 comes out anyway, zoey still has a lot of life left though :D
