***** Official 2014 BBQ Thread - Sun is out, time to grill!! *****

Get a charcoal chimney and by the time you've prepped the meat it's ready.
And saves you a hole lot by only buying one BBQ and no freighters etc needed.

I have a chimney and still use a firelighter to start it to guarantee it gets going. I hate to light paper or whatever under the coals go off and potter about prepping to come back and fine it hasn't taken enough, particularly if it is a bit cooler outside.

Where do people get their charcoal from, I'm thinking about getting some Ausie heat beads, can get 8 4kg bags for about £52

Heat beads are amazing, they burn for absolutely ages. Where have you seen them for 8 bags @ £52? That's not such a good deal given that the 4kg bags are under £6 each bought separately. Or does that include delivery as well?

I've heard that SupaGrill briquettes and lumpwood is excellent. I normally go with BigK but as I plan on smoking a lot more in the next few months I might try SupaGrill to see how that burns. Anyone got any suggestions on where to buy it?

Hoping for some advice...

We've just had our patio done and I've bought a Weber one-touch premium so we can have some barbecues over the summer. Have also bought a few bits and pieces with it but I wanted to add a table which I think I've seen a few times here, but I can't find a thing. Does anyone know where I can get a stand/table add-on for the one-touch?

I get it from here. I use a mix of Restaurant Charcoal and Supagrill Wonder Briquettes you wont find those at petrol stations and its great stuff, nice big chunks of charcoal and briquettes that burn for ages.

I was looking at their website the other day and was considering placing an order. Now that I have confirmation their stuff is good, I will probably go ahead.

Along with our South African friends, we BBQ all year round whatever the weather,

Ahem... The British do barbecues. South Africans have a Braai... and I'm reliably informed by my SA friends, usually at the business end of a toasting fork, that "the former is NOTHING like the latter, Soutie-Boy"!! :D

TBH, I gave up on barbecues and just opt to host a Braai. I nip up the SA shop, everyone comes round, I get the fire lit and before I know it one of the SAs will just habitually start cooking everything when my back is turned. I think that's a good arrangement!

Haha that sounds like us Saffa's! We do love our Braai's. I only refer to it as BBQ here because sometimes people don't know what you're on about. But for all true South Africans, the Braai is something very close to our hearts :) That and biltong, and both go hand in hand :)

Despite the high wind and drizzle, fired it up.
Pear smoke Piri Piri chicken, 20mins indirect then just a few minutes direct, with corn tortillas, coleslaw and more Pirie Piri sauce.

It was spare of the moment thing, so it was just bottled stuff.

Wasn't what in was after, pulled the wrong meat out the freezer, was wanting skin on oyster cuts.

No paprika in the recipe? And vinegar is a new one on me.

Base I would do, then add what ever flavours you want, like some herbs or whatever, or just plain.
Lemon juice, garlic, chills, oil, paprika, salt

I've managed to find the Weber MasterTouch BBQ for sub-£200 so I'll be ordering one today :D Which BBQ did you get bsoltan?

That sounds like quite a bargain. A friend of mine got me discount and I got a One-Touch Premium. I kind of wish I'd gone for that one if only for the lid holder. :D

That chicken looks amazing Glaucus. Good on you for BBQing :)

I just quite fancied the extras like the lid holder and the grate system. You can get the grate separately for the One Touch Premium but it kinda works out the same with the special offer I found.

Mine arrived today. It's still in the box downstairs. I can't wait to build it and use it this weekend. I also bought a new BBQ book called Slow Fire. It's amazing. Has some really great sounding recipes. I can't wait to give some a go. This weekend I'm going to convert an oven recipe for use on the BBQ. I am goning to cook a home cured pork loin over indirect heat. It'll be nice using indirect heat and having a thermometer on the unit to refer to whilst the food cooks.

Whilst I'm on the subject of food, can anyone recommend some good rubber sterile gloves for preparing meat? I find it a real ball ache having to wash my hands whilst preparing foods like butterfly chicken etc. I think nitrile gloves or similar would help out with this a lot. I just don't really know what to look for. Suggestions most welcome :)
