This weekend I'll be cooking two beef foreribs and I'll also be smoking a pork shoulder in my ProQ Excel. I need to find a clay saucer first though!

Edit - wrong thread.

When it arrives I'll let you guys know, all cheapo ones have bad reviews. Although I'm sure it'll be fine. It's all about air control, and cheapo ones normal have bad sealing air vents which can be easily bodged.

Smoking overnight - any top tips? I'm not that used to my Frontier but want to get some slow stuff done for lunch this weekend. I'm guessing that starting at say 9, brimming the fuel again at 11 and it should stay alight for 6 am? It may be raining of course!

I need a bigger bbq. Storage space is an issue so looking at a kettle type suitable for cooking for 6 to 8 people for about a hundred (or so) pounds.

Recommendations?

Weber One Touch Original for £135. It's the best basic BBQ you'll ever own and with a 57cm grill, you have loads of room for cooking a load of meat. You can even smoke on one too if you fancy giving that a try later on :)

Are you using water or a clay saucer / sand? Fill the charcoal basket to the top with unlit coals and then light a full chimney and put that on, let it come up to temperature and then you should get a good 5 - 8 hours out of that single basket :)

Is the charcoal basket not very big on a frontier? 5-8 hours for a full load seems very short.

The Frontier is capable of more but I personally think Chokka is over-stoking things a little with his suggestion of a full lit chimney to start things off. Half a chimney of lit coals is more than enough to get things going and using clay/sand in the water bowl and careful vent management will get you 10 hours of smoke fairly easily with decent charcoal.

I really don't know, I was just posting something that I read on another forum :) I have an Excel but I've never burned a full basket of charcoal yet :) I just posted up a quick reply, without finding out exactly what charcoal is being used, what I suggested is sort of a decent catch all :)

Fitted a couple of latches on the smoker as it dropped in the winter. This is top job now. Might have to smash it on today :D

This let me down last time although I got 5.5 hours. My charcoal is also a bit on the small side too. I'm hoping to escape work early on Friday and just get it done that evening; it's only a 1kg brisket and 1.5kg pork shoulder

Pricing up a One Touch Premium charcoal bbq with premium cover and chimney starter is about £229 from World of Power (anyone used them before?).

Riverside Garden Centre do it for £253 with 3kg of briquettes and fire lighters...

Are there any other accessories that are classed as "essential" ??

Where do you all get your lumpwood/briquettes from? And what's generaly regarded as better? Lumpwood or Briquettes? (Sainsburys lumpwood is a bit small usually and falls through the grate so will need some bigger lumpwood if I go down that route).

I have about 40 bookmarked recipes ready to use :D

Thanks :)

I went with the Master Touch in the end as they can be had for less than 199.99 online and you get the gourmet grill, they also come in different colours, the Smoke colour looks titanium. I also got charcoal baskets included which are great for indirect cooking. From what I recall the standard and premium 57cm you get charcoal guide rails so you can't easily move the charcoal around. There was a Weber drip tray included also.

For accessories I got the premium cover plus the rapid fire chimney starter and a weber glove for handling the chimney, came to about 270. I will get the wok at some point, I think smoking through mince for tacos or something could be intresting.
