It's a really delicious recipe. I stuck to the instructions pretty much verbatim and I definitely liked it. I can imagine that extra chilli would be good though. The papaya salad had enough of a kick to work with it though without it or something similar I think you'd definitely want some chilli in the actual marinade.

Ganesh, do you have the recipe for that cheeseburger loaf? Is it weird I've been thinking about it quite a lot today?

Not weird at all, it's a tasty hunk of meat! Most days I'll spend time thinking about what I'm going to BBQ next.

It's a very simple and straightforward recipe -

1kg minced beef (full fat, 80/20).
3-4 packs streaky bacon (approx 48 slices).
Cheese.
Onions.
Insert other fillings here.
Your favourite rub.

Mix together your beef mince, add whatever ingredients to it you like. I usually add the following - salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, dash of BBQ sauce.
Roll it out flat in a big rectangle on some baking/grease proof paper, not too thin otherwise it will break.
Add your fillings and roll it up. Don't overfill it otherwise it could spring a leak. Make sure the ends are sealed up.
Make your bacon weave on some grease proof paper, make sure that it's wide enough to cover the ends of the meatloaf.
Place meatloaf onto bacon and roll it up.
Refrigerate until you're ready to cook.
Sprinkle bacon with a rub of your choice (I usually do this shortly before putting it on the smoker, as opposed to the night before).

But where are the pictures? :p Or did I miss them?

Sorry, forgot! Leftovers tasted awesome yesterday after a few days stewing in a tupperware

Join the club :) Thanks for the recipe - it's basically a meat cake which can never not be awesome. I saw a few YT videos of people rolling their mince inside a freezer bag to keep it in shape, looked like a pro tip

hotsmoked.co.uk have great CS and are well recommended by various BBQ groups. You can probably get it cheaper on amazon/wherever though if you want to save cash.

The elite is great but it's not worth paying the extra unless you need to smoke a lot of meat at once. The elite also will eat fuel a little faster due to the larger size.

Hi French, thanks for that, by the Elite i was referring to the Frontier Elite, the one with the better build quality and holes for probes.

My main question is whether the probe holes are worth the extra or not

Have just recently purchased my own I can say that the ET-733 saved me lots of worry. Was able to relax and keep an eye on temps at the same time.

So you need a hole for probes. Just need to decide if you want to drill your own or buy a smoker with them.

Oh yeah, sorry. I get the Elite and Excel mixed up a lot :)

The Elite is definitely better but you can also live without the extra probe holes. I guess it comes down to the difference in price. I'd happily pay an extra £20 or so.

edit: And now I've read your other reply :p The standard Frontier will do you fine. You can easily fit probes in through the vents.

Yeah, that sounds like a better way to spend the money rather than an Elite with eyelets and no chimney/thermometer :)

I don't know if you've already read up on it but to save yourself hassle in the future I'd immediately move to not filling the water pan with water. Instead fill it with sand/etc and cover it over with foil. This will allow you to use less fuel and force you to learn how to control temperature with the vents rather than using the water pan as a crutch.

Yeah I've been keeping up with the thread this year :) I'll be off over to a builders merchants later this week for some sand.
