He's sort of got a point, it would reduce the time it takes for teams to catch up in theory as you saw through the Mercedes dominant period, the first 3 years they had the same sort of advantage at the beginning of the season, but as Ferrari took them closer they were working harder through the season and their advantage the next year at the beginning of the season reduced up until RBR overtook them in 2021 and it was Mercedes playing catch up through the season.

Funny how we never heard Hamilton say this when he was benefiting from having the best car for 8 seasons in a row.

Things are rather different in the cost cap era though. Bit by bit, all these engine development freezes, testing limits, etc. have made it harder and harder for anything to change much during the season.

Also Ferrari had the best car in '17 and '18; they just were too outgunned in the driver department.

Do people just pretend that 2017 and 2018 didn't happen

But other than that, you're right. I'm having to suck up this period of Red Bull domination but I can't really complain cause Mercedes had a brilliant run.

I'd rather F1 had less periods of domination by particular teams or drivers. It doesn't matter which team or driver it is, it's always better when it is a fight. The Mercedes domination was mostly less boring than this era because there was a fight for the WDC - whether it was Nico or Seb, Hamilton didn't just walk away with it - apart from '19 and '20, that is. And, I guess, because they came at the end they stick in the memory more. Even in Seb's four year run, 2010 was an incredibly tense and close year and 2012 was a close fought battle between Alonso and Seb. But the boring dominations of '11 and '13 stick in the memory.

This year and last have been single driver/team domination on a level rarely seen. Hopefully, Mercedes and Ferrari and maybe Aston can bring it to Red Bull next year.

Ham moaning about car development!!! Gee, what a cry baby....

For both of your benefits here's the actual interview; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=am0JC0EvK2E

The interviewer pulls him up on it and he agrees. He actually makes a very good point in that dominance by one team is simply exacerbated by the fact that they once they get so far ahead they can just start developing next years car and get a huge advantage going into the new calendar. Which is exactly what RB are doing, obviously.

I'm surprised the click-bait fans aren't pulling him up on the comment to Kravitz at 3mins in where he states pretty definitively that the wind tunnel penalty would have done absolutely nothing to harm RB. But I guess we all agree on that?

Whichever way you paint it, he is still having moan as he always does when he is on a losing streak.....

Verstappen added to Sky Sports News: "We weren't talking about that when [Lewis] was winning his championships, right? So I don't think we should now.

Totally agree with Max.

Apart from red bull moaned constantly during said period about everything they could. Peoples memories are short. It was the same with ferrari when Schumacher dominated.

And ignoring that the FIA did infact change the rules to intentionally slow down the Mercedes, such as banning DAS and adjusting the suspension rake angle which harmed only Mercedes (and Mercedes b-spec Racing Point team).

Merc was still the fastest car on the grid though, just look at Lewis in Brazil. In the sprint he went from last to 5th in 20 odd laps and iirc only a second or so behind 3rd and 4th, one more lap and he might have even finished on the podium.

I don't mind team dominate for 3 (4 seasons top) but not really sure how you can prevent it, especially in this age of budget cap. Changing rules more often adds cost thus goes against keeping the costs down and if you keep the same rules long enough for other teams to catch up, you risk other manufacturers to walk away as they either can't close the gap and/or aren't getting value for money from their R&D.

He had a brand new PU for that GP. That's why it was a rocket ship in that particular race.

I feel like Russell needs a good outing this weekend. He’s been disappointing recently, albeit with some bad luck. But it has shut up the LH haters that were insistent George was going to show him up in the same machinery :p

Its always been the same in racing...people moan when one team dominates..
Regardless of who is dominating, the fact a team can dominate is a problem with the rules. The point about being so far ahead that you can extend your lead by starting next years development months early is definitely valid. The leaders just get further ahead.
