A few people probably ought to rewatch the bore fest that was the first half of the Emilia Romagna race last season when calling for DRS to be scrapped :p

It was a dull race overall.

Alonso lucked out to a podium but nevertheless produced a storming drive.

I accept it is early days but something like a 38-60 second lead over the closest teams in the pack does seem insurmountable by in season development. That’s around 8 tenths a lap over Aston and up to a second a lap over Merc at Bahrain.

I accept Ferrari are probably closer on paper, but well, it is highly likely they will Ferrari the hell out of the championship and we all know what that means in reality!

So maybe Max, Perez and Alonso for WDC P1-3! :p

Re Stroll - He is an OK driver and probably better than several others on the grid right now. Let us also not forget that he jumped in the car this weekend without any testing time and (allegedly) with broken bones/pins in his wrist and a broken toe!

An F1 car is hard enough to drive for fit drivers without injury - so if it is true about his injuries, I think Stroll did a good job under the circumstances.

Will he be WDC? Probably not, but he has been fairly consistent throughout the seasons at scoring valuable points.

What makes it worse, is that Max said after the race, that he wasn't allowed to push.

So they were that far ahead without even trying.

He pulled 7 seconds on Leclerc in like the first 10 laps and still had vastly better tyre wear.

The RB is massively quicker than any other car.

Even whinger spice knows it.
Who?

I assume you'd quite like a thread ban from the next race thread?

(And yes I'm aware the disclaimer below wasn't included in the Opening post for this thread, but I'd have hoped by now that people would have moved beyond such childish rubbish)

Just a reminder, but consider it a pre-warning - can we not have any further derogatory name calling of drivers, team bosses and the like. We don't expect you to like every driver/team, but at least keep comments respectful.

If you don't follow this warning, you will lose access to this race thread and the thread for the first race of the 2023 season as well.

Does anyone know what McLaren were up to all winter as it doesn’t seem that they spent it developing their car.

McLaren managed to actually look worse than they did in testing. Not only have they completely fluffed their car development in terms of pace, they have botched the reliability as well. Both cars failing is desperate. I wonder whether it's linked to their personnel changes?

Max’s problem this season is that Fernando is happiest when he’s got someone that wants to bang elbows with him and he wants a third WDC crown as badly as Max does.

I hope you're right, but I just don't see Aston having the pace to bother Max, particularly as it seems better in the race than in quali. By the time, Alonso has worked his way up the grid, Max will be sitting on a 20s lead and just vibin' rather than pushing.

Will be interesting to see what Mercedes plan B is. I expect it to be too late to have any effect to this seasons outcome though.
Toto Wolff has said that they went the wrong way with the W14 and they don’t think they can make it competitive. The big question is will Lewis still want to drive in 2024 after Mercedes have given him two sub-par cars in a row.

Well, I enjoyed the race, voted it a 6. Not a blinder by any stretch, but just enough going on to keep me interested throughout.
I have decided that I really must have a low bar for entertainment, compared to you lot :D I rarely find a race "boring" regardless of the outcomes!!

Me too. F1 is back and I enjoyed the engineering on display. I can’t fathom why people who don’t enjoy it as much as they proclaim bother to watch AND then go post about it, strange behaviour.

For me is hard to give up a habit.
I've watched f1 for so long really out of habit. If i hadn't watched it years ago no way would I watch a race now and think "this is great".

I'm going to cancel f1tv as it makes it much worse watching the full race unfortunately. An hour highlights show cuts out so much of the bordem

It also takes a lot away when you know the team you support will never win.

Really, I should just stop watching. But it's an easy watch an hour before bed on a Sunday with c4 highlights

As if Max isn't going to be 30 seconds up the road from Alonso in most races this season.

The Aston looks good, but it was nowhere near the Max in the RB's pace.

Unless they get upgrades that will get them to compete but it's a big ask

Can't see Ferrari catching up other than maybe depending on few tracks or conditions to make it close

Overall can see redbull running away with it maybe even record points ?

Embarrassing for Mercedes with Aston using it's engine/ gearbox etc and being faster

Watching Ted's notebook this morning (slow morning at home :p) and he mentioned the wind tunnel limit on RB and said it probably wouldn't bite until midway through the season. lol it'll be all over by then!

I generally don't go for wild predictions but everything is pointing towards this being a total washout.

I was half tempted, whilst half-asleep watching the race, to work out what is the earliest Max could be crowned champion, assuming an RB 1-2 every race. Is it before the summer break?:p

I always wonder what a team like rbr do if they are potentially on for a whitewash.

They are in f1 for advertising yes?

Would it be bad for brand exposure to wrap this up so early? Or would they be keen for records etc?

I wonder how many would turn off if, let's say, the MV wins 9/10 or more of the races?
