To no real surprise, FP2 has been delayed.

F1 journos also tweeting that the FIA are possibly looking at extending it to 90 minutes to make up for lost practice time.

this is another reason to ditch the idea of having new street circuits, the current street circuits either have no manholes or they're not an impact but when you make a circuit on the street you can't always guarantee that this won't happen, imagine what it would have been like if it was in the actual race.

Due to the impact with a foreign object on the race track, the following cars have to change the below listed components, which are restricted by the 2023 Formula One Sporting Reculations:
Car 55 (driver Carlos Sainz):
Survival cell
Internal Combustion Engine (ICE)
Energy Store (ES) and directly associated Control Electronics (CE)

Car 31 (driver Esteban Ocon);
Survival cell

maybe those teams should put a claim in against LV for those parts :D

BBC reporting that the concrete around the manhole cover failed, presumably from the sudden suction of F1 cars going over it.
Anyone know how they are checked? I can't see how a visual inspection would be much use, so I'm guessing that there's some static load test where you apply a test force on the manhole cover, and if it stays in place then it's ok. But if they did that for this one that failed then maybe the test isn't sufficient, and it leaves the organisers with a problem of deciding / safety justifying a new test, and then retesting and hoping they all pass. If that's happening I doubt it will be quick.

I wouldnt expect it any time soon, lots of manholes to check and any problems with concrete will be longer than just welding loose covers

Have they said why they think it failed? Sucked up by ground effect or had a lip and the floor has whacked it?

the ground effect sucked the manhole up, whether it was just sainz car that did it or not is unknown but i'd suspect that as this happened 9mins in it was a combination of several cars going over it and Sainz was the unlucky one to finally get that last like bit

If it is the concrete that's failed around the cover then the actual manhole could be tested to destruction and not reveal anything. Sounds to me this in entirely unexpected, and who would really could be the concrete failing as clearly all the covers were checked for being welded in place. This is a very unusual occurence it seems.
