Yeah unfortunately what correlated in the wind tunnel didn't reflect in real world testing. Not the first time teams have gone down this path but it does beg the question why they stuck at it for the start of this season.Maybe they were; but they caused so much compromise elsewhere that they lost more than they gained.

Probaly expecting the 0.3/0.4 upgrades they had in the works would be competitive, instead redbull turn up 1s fasterTwo reasons, it seems: firstly, they made a mistake in the scale models used in wind tunnel testing and got bad data and, secondly, because Russell's late season win gave them false hope. That made them think their approach still had more room to grow, and they figured that it was better to continue with a model they were already collecting good data for than start a new concept a season behind Red Bull and Ferrari.
That's one of two teams that went down a wind tunnel dead end then I know of, Mclaren being the other. They are also still hampered by having to use Toyota's old tunnel in Cologne which means shipping aero parts to and fro from the factory adding to their expenditure. I think their new one comes on song this year? Two reasons, it seems: firstly, they made a mistake in the scale models used in wind tunnel testing and got bad data and, secondly, because Russell's late season win gave them false hope. Could be the case they are, however not expecting much from it this year but hopefully next, fingers crossed..Yeah, it's already built and they plan on bringing it online from June. I do wonder how much difference it will make, it seems like McLaren have been pinning a lot of hopes on that tunnel for the last few years. Feels like they've been using it as an excuse to cover more fundamental issues.
Perhaps just including them in a Spoiler tag would be a good compromise?Opening post is much better without F2 and F3 or whatever mixed in with F1 times.
F3 quali is done in 2 groups going out for 16 mins That's not the norm is it?
F1 planning to do the same?
