Maybe they were; but they caused so much compromise elsewhere that they lost more than they gained.
Yeah unfortunately what correlated in the wind tunnel didn't reflect in real world testing. Not the first time teams have gone down this path but it does beg the question why they stuck at it for the start of this season.
From what I understand, if everything is right, track and ambient conditions, it can show promise however that promise didn't reflect progress being made and it seems Mercedes hit a brick wall.

Two reasons, it seems: firstly, they made a mistake in the scale models used in wind tunnel testing and got bad data and, secondly, because Russell's late season win gave them false hope. That made them think their approach still had more room to grow, and they figured that it was better to continue with a model they were already collecting good data for than start a new concept a season behind Red Bull and Ferrari.

Probaly expecting the 0.3/0.4 upgrades they had in the works would be competitive, instead redbull turn up 1s faster

That's one of two teams that went down a wind tunnel dead end then I know of, Mclaren being the other. They are also still hampered by having to use Toyota's old tunnel in Cologne which means shipping aero parts to and fro from the factory adding to their expenditure. I think their new one comes on song this year?

Yeah, it's already built and they plan on bringing it online from June. I do wonder how much difference it will make, it seems like McLaren have been pinning a lot of hopes on that tunnel for the last few years. Feels like they've been using it as an excuse to cover more fundamental issues.

Could be the case they are, however not expecting much from it this year but hopefully next, fingers crossed..

See the Merc B Spec is on full show now..

Hopefully its good to make it worth watching a race this year.
Although...who watches Monaco anyways?

F3 quali is done in 2 groups going out for 16 mins That's not the norm is it?

F1 planning to do the same?

F3 has a much larger grid than F1; 30 cars competing this season.

Perhaps just including them in a Spoiler tag would be a good compromise?

Separating them out seems compromise enough. It's not like they take up that much space.

nah it's find how it is in this thread. In some threads they were all in the same table so it read F1 free practice 10:00, f2 free practice 11:30, F1 free practice 2 etc... I think they must have come like that from Sky or F1. Not complaining. I know a lot a work goes into making the threads. It's just easier to read when they are separate.

Just read the following article on Autosport about the cars being too wide for Monaco (Well durr)

But it contained the following graph which I found quite interesting.

As for the timings in the opening post, I like it how they are. I've always checked the OP for session timings as the are all in one place (Instead of having to check the F2 or F3 website seperately) and I can get the stream open in good time.

We continually hear how cars are too wide.

When the regulations changed massively for last year, surely it would have been a simple matter for the car width to have been reduced by a foot. All the cars were redesigned from scratch for 2022 so that could have been part of the change.
