Anyone seen the underside of the McLaren yet? I wonder if it's any more developed than the Williams.

Surely now the RB and the Merc have been upended, these back end teams must have some clue what to do now.

Seems more incompetent strategy than anything else. What were they doing with Leclerc today? Carlos was ahead of the Astons

Luc "I want softs"
Pit wall "we put on 25 lap old hards"
Luc "..."

He didn't speak to the pit wall the whole of the race after. I don't understand how Ferrari ended up as such a clown show

Alonso has stopped caring about winning.

He deliberately didn't overtake Stroll even though he was on much fresher tyres and was lapping way faster.

He has agreed to something in his contract, no racing driver should. No other explanation.

For the WDC you’re either first or you’re last, so he’s thinking of the team health by not creating friction and bringing it home.

Also, Lance will probably never be replaced so Alonso wants to keep his seat. They’d be insane to replace him anyway.

Alonso is smart and playing the long game. He wasn't going to catch Sainz, and p6,p7 it makes little difference.

Keeping Stroll (senior and junior) on side is advantageous long term.

Yeah, risk a late move on your teammate for 6th place when you've already got 5 podiums. No killer instinct .

Risk? He would have breezed past.

Overtaking was easy and he even took the mick waving to fans whilst finishing less than a second behind.

Alonso is playing for possible P2 or P3 in the WDC. No one at Aston Martin is getting mad, for Alonso overtaking on pace when he has brought the team 90+ points.

There is something in his contract where he is incentivised to give up places (which he did today) or his motivation isn't there anymore.

His team radio was also bizarre. He was telling the team to tell Stroll not to worry about him getting so close. He wasn't planning on overtaking.

Alonso tarnishing his legacy.

Since Alonso's move to Aston Martin he's massively boosted his reputation. He's become what Vettel was in his last couple of years where all of a sudden everyone loves him when earlier in their careers that wasn't always the case. He's certainly doing no harm to his 'legacy'.

AM have given him a car he could have only dreamed about. He's sitting a comfortable 3rd in the championship and could easily be 2nd by end of season.

Why risk anything... the race wasn't his today but a happy AM and boss will certainly make his season with the team much easier and give him even more leverage towards the development of the car.

Up until this race sure. But no other driver would have given up a place to their team mate today (or ever tbh as the lead driver).

Just think about what you are saying. He should be grateful he has a good car and so should throw Stroll some scraps? He gave up 2 points today.

Yeh he shoild be grateful he has a great car. Every driver should be!

His time at Alpine was miserable. Just look at Norris - once hailed as a potential championship winner is sat in a car that is utterly terrible and he is watching in real time his career turn to nothing.

So yeh drivers 100% shoild be grateful for good car development and all the people that make it happen. Especially if your boss is the one that's pumping all the money into it.

He is grateful for the car.

Why should he gift points to his team mate as a consequence?

That is not racing driver mentality. "I'll settle for 7th even though I could easily get 6th and 2 extra points".

Not many drivers have also achieved everything in the sport already, he's a double world champion, he's already retired once and he's more than proven himself against Stroll already. I think he's just really enjoying his time at Aston and is happy for both drivers and the team to do well. I think it's great to see.

So this mentality, is what will tarnish, Alonso the racing driver. The driver who did everything to eek out the best in every car he raced in. Who always tried to get the most points possible.

This sounds like retirement.
