It does seem like Ferrari have made progress over the last couple of races. They seem pretty close to Mclaren now. They seem to have leapfrogged Mercedes a bit after lagging behind them.

Pecking order for the top 4 now does seem to be:

Mclaren
Ferrari
Red Bull
Mercedes

I guess it is still quite track specific, but i don't think Monza and Baku are that similar are they (in terms of what they need from the car)?

It does seem pretty track specific, Ferrari have been pretty good at Baku in the past and most seem to expect them to be quick in Singapore this weekend.
Monza is very much a super low downforce one-off for all the teams (a bit like Monaco is with high downforce) so I think Ferrari must just have done a good job with their Monza spec wing, etc

I noticed that Ferrari are now running that split element front wing, which I think Merc or McLaren started the season with - does seem like all of their upgrades are leading them down the right path.

Charles had really good pace at Monza.

Singapore was the one awful race for Red Bull last year, wasn't it? Could be quite a fun weekend if Norris doesn't bottle qualifying again and we get a genuine Norris vs. Leclerc vs. Piastri vs. Sainz at the front.

I do wonder, considering how Max seemed both during and after the race, if they have got a bit more of an understanding on their issues though and potentially might be in a position to not be quite so crap in these last 7/8 races.

If they're ahead of Merc as well, that'll help Max pickup enough 5/6 finishes (maybe nab the occasional podium or win) to grab the title too.

RB have struggled at Singapore for a while, even when they were dominant as it’s quite bumpy.

Piastri win, Charles second, Norris DNF, papaya rules back on as they’ll be almost even on points. 3 way fight to the top.

Why was Max so slow in Baku? He got overtaken by Russell whilst Perez was fighting for at least a podium at the end.

I know Perez is always good in Baku, but Max really did seem uncharacteristically off the pace.

They made some setup changes between FP3 and Q1 to see if they could get a bit more performance - and it just didn't go the right direction.

It looks like Red Bull are going the Mercedes 2022 route and using the more experienced driver to get better feedback on setup / upgrades, essentially knowing that Baku & Singapore will be poor races for them regardless but if Max can give some very detailed feedback at the two races it potentially is a huge help for them going into the last 6 or 7 races.

Seems to be really struggling with the setup of the car. The Red Bull seems to have a stability problem over bumps and curves that it has carried all through the ground effect era but previously it was so much faster than the other cars that they could get away with it, and run slower setups to minimise the problem without really suffering. I'm not sure why Max ended getting the setup so much worse than Pérez but that seems to be the main cause. That and Sergio having a great weekend up to two laps before the end.

In the race interview he said the rears were hopping off the tarmac. Every time that happens it looses grip, which slows you down and increases wear.

I was going to say the same thing and then stopped because I was thinking... which wind tunnel would they use? None of the teams would want to volunteer their one and wind tunnels aren't the kind of thing just lying around are they? But then...there must be companies out there that hire them out to anyone as non bias entities where you can get non bias results to help with random projects? Like say someone was trying to design a new cycling helmet or something.
Toyota used to hire their wind tunnel out to Mclaren and only till very recently, 2023 I believe.

Yeah, McLaren now have their own windtunnel which came online middle of last year - and look how their performance has jumped. It'll be interesting to see how Aston's tunnel improves their performance from next year, as they're currently sharing Mercedes' one in Brackley.
