I think both things can be true. He massively benefitted from the red flag, much like Alpine, and got the jump on his competitors by not pitting.

But he still did a supreme set of laps.

DIdn't have to pass any of the other top teams and was handed a free tire change otherwise he would have been in trouble.

As soon as he was at front it was clear he would speed off same would have happened if you stuck norris in that place we saw from sprint that is how it would go
You’d give the ocean a run for its money in terms of saltiness.

Norris fumbled 3 starts. He probably would’ve spun out if he had the lead.

So what do we reckon will happen as regards penalties for the starting procedure error, being investigated now race has finished?

Why aren't all drivers who followed Norris, including Max, being investigated?

Time penalties, or something else?

Max is not under investigation it was only top 5-6

Mercedes will 100% be in trouble for tire pressure changes.

I think it will be a slap on the wrist with penalty points and maybe a fine.

Giving some form of time penalty after the race is concluded for an action that had no standing on the results in the first place is pretty harsh.

other drivers ARE being investigated.

I suspect everyone will get a slap on the wrist - nothing more - it didn't affect the actual race start overall so probably all parties including the stewards/FIA need to be better communicating whats happening

The only people who are currently under investigation are: Norris, Russell, Tsunoda and Lawson for start procedure infringement.

Russell and Hamilton for technical infringement of adjusting tyre pressure on the grid

Sainz for something... We never found out.

LN proving yet again he's not at the level required to win a WDC - far too many mistakes again in complete stark contrast to MV who's clearly had the 3rd/4th best car for sometime and still leads the WDC. Granted he got fortunate with the red flag but his performance after that was staggering and to win from 17th.... McLaren could fall into a barrel full of boobies and come out sucking their own thumb.

Hamilton pit radio - Ok Lewis, that's P10 mate. Tough weekend for just a point, but well done anyway.

Hamilton - Yeah. Well that was a disaster of a weekend guys. That's the worst the cars ever been. But thank you for continuing to try and great job to all the guys at the pit stop. If this is the last time that I get to perform, it's a shame it wasn't great.

I'm sorry Norris? They got lucky with a rule that no-one agrees with?

The rules that's been the same for a very long time? Team principals could have agreed to change that at time the rules are being discussed, but nope...

The level required to be a WDC is not a defined thing though. Jenson Button only had to beat Rubens Barichello and maybe a late-charging Vettel to win a WDC. Hamilton only had to beat Bottas for a few of his titles. Lando in his one and only title battle is going up against one of the greatest drivers of all time and the best driver currently on the grid. So yeah in the context of this season he's not at the level required to be a WDC but then no one else on the grid is either on recent evidence.

Great race.

Still confused about the start infringements. Are we saying g the lights stayed red and the 1st 5 drivers started to move, then the lights turned green and allowed the rest to do the same for the sake of correcting the mess?

In theory every single car breached the Aborted start in the end, so I'm confused why only some are being investigated. Not sure it was explained by the Sky commentary team during the race.
