Also, can anyone fill me in on what happened to Leclerc? I watched the highlights and it jumped from Leclerc ahead of Russell to him suddenly being 7 seconds behind yet still with the McLaren's behind him. Seemed bizarre.

LeClerc ran wide coming out of T4 / through T5.

About 6:55 in the youtube highlights

What a weekend.

Can't believe alpine held onto 2 podiums. I was sure they were going to slide back.

Truely exceptional from verstappen. He really doesn't need to be a douche when he is. But yeah incredible. Only driver really able to overtake.

Alpine were running Hugh risk. I thought Ocon was going to pit when he had chance to only lose a few places. Had that race not been red flagged surely the top3s tyres would have been so dead they'd have all slid right back?

Oh congrats to verstappen on the WDC.

Sorry perez. You absolutely have to go.

Anyone know exactly why Hamilton was so bad vs Russell today?
I do wonder if the older drivers have a harder time with back pain in these bumpy tracks. (ie alonso and Hamilton etc)

I had to go to bed immediately after the race, but slightly amused checking PlanetF1 and seeing Russell was "shocked" that the race was not red flagged sooner.
It's must be time to change the rules regarding wet weather tyres, since teams and drivers can't be trusted to go on to the correct tyre for the situation. "Wah, wah, there's no grip from the 500 year old inters."

The FIA, yet again, proving they are completely incompetent. The safety car they threw out for no reason triggered the red flag.

Good to see there was no messing about with results after the race. Hopefully Stroll just goes missing and is never seen or heard from again.

Wasn't the safety car put out primarily because of visibility rather than grip ? The spray looked pretty crazy when it started bucketing it down, visually it looked wetter than any conditions I've seen them race in during recent times even if it wasn't reflected in grip levels.

I was quite happy I was watching with the local commentary. There is no way I could have handled Croft with the way that race went. Even imagining his takes from it, hurt. :D

I'm sure it was, but it just wasn't necessary. They were getting round fine.

Something needs to change with the inters / wets. They can nail around quite happily on inters until the point the spray becomes too bad, when ever would full wets be deployed?

His performance was even worse than usual - laughable actually it's things like this that are pushing me further to get F1TV

I know this race in particular had lots of moving parts but dear me some of the verbal diarrhoea is too much.

It was crazy how easy he found it to overtake.

Everyone else seemed to very easily get stuck behind whoever they were following (regardless of whether it was a worse driver/car).

Oh dear oh dear some people have short memories…..

Re: Stroll;
Yes a facepalm moment, but even Prost did it (‘90 San Marino GP) and DC IN THE DRY!!(‘95 Italian GP)

Safety car;
More for visibility. Plenty of times they have done this.
If they’d red flagged before Calppinto binned it then the rain would have soaked the track more.
Going round for a few laps even slowly clears some water whilst the sharp shower cleared

Don’t understand how Max was so fast later because earlier he was stuck behind Leclerc for so long
I can only think fresher/warmer tyres?

I think everyone really struggled when behind anyone, likely due to visibility. No one else seemed to be able to overtake except Max and even he struggled when stuck behind Leclerc.

Even Max dropped back from Ocon (or Gasly?) after the restart. It was only because he got into the lead swiftly after the safety car restart that he was able to build a gap.

I'm not ******* on Max's performance because it was very good, but I think the 19 sec gap was a bit of an illusion because he had no spray, and alpines stuck behind him holding everyone else up/creating spray for those behind.

Norris is such a turd. Hopefully Ferrari have their car together next year and we see Chuck fighting for the WDC.

He hates the questions because he can't deal with the pressure sadly.
Everyone hating on Norris like he had a rocket ship for the whole season. No sooner had the McLaren improved for a couple of races, Ferrari turned out a vastly improved car. And more importantly - Norris has still been often out performing Piastri whilst everyone is still talking about Norris choking. Piastri had the same car in Brazil did he not? Without the red flag Norris would have been way up the road compared to Piastri.
(Snip) It's always been a long shot, trying to make out he threw a title away is crazy harsh.
Yeah I think that’s a fair take overall. To add - he threw away quite a few good results and points (and wins), but not necessarily the championship.

Agreed. So many articles to wade through about this “masterclass” and yes obviously it was a good drive and has most certainly won him the WDC. But the only “good” drivers he had to overtake was Piastri and Hamilton who were both having an absolutely ‘mare. He still got stuck behind Leclerc and the other front runners.

What needs to happen for him to sew it up at Vegas?

Agreed first 5 races no one was getting close to Max he had free reign, once McLaren improved , Ferrari and Mercedes also started to get in the way

Next season could be very exciting usually is when last year before car regulation changes
