Peach of a card though. It is a shame you are 1.3V limited :( Maybe 8 Pack can give some advice as he knows his overclocking stuff.

I plan to collar him at some point this week to give me a hand getting my memory timings down so I will see what he says, seen plenty of lightnings doing 1500mhz+ on LN2, just no mention of the methods used to overclock :(

All the 'LN2' bios on my card seems to do is unlock AB's core/mem clocks the same as what /xcl would do to a normal bios. I can set the voltage to 1.35v which peaks at 1.362v, just feel getting it to 1.4v would see me break past this 1350mhz barrier.

Hehe, sorry Mybrains- I now have the fastest 7950 :) (for GPU only score that is- you still have a higher P score thanks to your 2700k)

1200/1650 at 1137mv core/1700mv memory. Don't ask why 1137 specifically, I tried at 1093mv (stock for most 7950's) but it crashed at the second test. I just randomly whacked up the voltage a bit and somehow it worked. Not exactly the most professional way of overclocking, but it worked nonetheless. I think I must have a pretty good chip (in terms of silicone lottery) since the voltage isn't much higher than stock (since stock voltage for most 7950's seems to be 1093mv) and the core is overclocked by 50%. These cards really do overclock lots. I'm quite tempted to try and pass the 10k GPU only score now... though that'll probably have to wait until tomorrow..

Not sure how much further I can go, the temps got up to around 79C using the default user define fan profile and with my DIYed exhaust fan on the back of the card going at full speed.

Thanks for updating, Gregster :)

^^ lmao

The thing with 3Dmark11 is, it loves the core being overclocked and the Heaven bench loves the memory being overclocked. In honesty, AMD and Nvidia have great cards but the pricing of Nvidia leaves a little frown on my head (with me being an Nvidia fan boy). The 7970/50 and 680/70 are more than capable of playing all the latest games with decent returns. I came from a 560TI to a 680 and the difference is night and day.

Yeah, I'm actually thinking that 1650 mem is too much and might actually hinder performance..
Actually, I just tried 1200/1400 but I got a lower score, so 1650 mem does help.

The 560Ti was a great card for its time :)

New score :)
I did say I wanted to break 10k GPU only score, so I did.

This was at 1250/1700 on 1200mv core/1700mv memory. Temps got up to 84C max with all case fans on full speed, graphics card on default user define fan profile and the side panel off. I was also fanning the card manually with the side panel just to try and keep it cool. I tried 1300/1700 at the same voltage, but it was artifacting like crazy with red streaks and flashing on most tests. I stopped it on the third test (though it never actually crashed, so it might have made it).

Thanks for updating again Gregster, sorry to keep posting all these new scores all the time- I've just got the overclocking bug now, it's pretty addictive :)
I'm thinking of trying to get 1300 MHz at some point, though I may have to wait for a cold day to try that...
We definitely need some more 7950's here, it's kinda lonely with just the few of us..

No probs at all. It is easier if I keep on top of scores else I end up making a mess of scores. When I benched my single card score, I have a huge fan that is on a stand, I took the side off the case and layed the fan almost inside the case :p It did help keep temps low but wasn't realy needed....I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't throttle back at all.

Add a new score at anytime and I will update as soon as I see it :)

May have to bring down the floor fan from the loft...
Though it is hard to make sure you angle the fan at the bottom of the card where the intake fans are, other wise you end up blowing air at the side of the card which forces the exhausted hot air back into the card. For this reason, I'm not sure that me manually fanning the card with the side panel (quite hard work when you really go for it, I must say) actually helped or just made it worse. One thing that I can be sure of is that a nice cold winter will definitely help out- 'tis the season to be 'clocking I say :)

Cheers guys

965 Overclocked to 3.8GHZ

MSI 7870 Overclocked 1250 Core / 1450 Mem

Still seems low.

It may but take into account your GPU score and it performs admirably next to another 7870 :) The CPU is holding your main score from being higher as AMD are sadly behind in the CPU department.

Click on the GPU scores only to see how your card compares to others.
