The question is what?
I would go with an i7 of some sort as they will last much longer. My i7 920 at 4.0ghz is most likely still enough to max out any single gpu card and it's ancient. Can't say the same for the i5 of it's generation. Getting an i7 would probably save you money over time.
Probably best looking at 3770 and above or holding out for ddr4 and the cpu's that come with it.
Its a choice between:
3570K: + 900 Physics Points.
4670K: + 1000 Physics Points.
FX-83##: + 1200 Physics Points.
26/700K: + 4000 Physics Points.
3770K: + 4500 Physics Points.
The only AMD option will cost me the price of the CPU. (£120)
Intel options, all i5's are not of any interest to me.
3770K: New £240 + £100 for MOBO. (£340)
26/700K: Used £??? + £??? for MOBO.
