****Official 6850/6870 Reviews thread****

They dont seem to bad, crossfire seems to scale prity well, power consumption seems really good aswell, but surely it would make sence to include in the benchmarks the cards that are being replaced rather than just the 5850/5870

As it stands you look at the reviews and think yeah not bad but if you compare it to the cards there replaceing the gap is massive

Looks like this will be coming soon from Nvidia....

Toms Hardware:

"this sure would be a good time to introduce a card with a fully-equipped GF104 and 384 CUDA cores enabled (Ed.: I can’t comment, but I know something that you don’t, Don)."

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/radeon-hd-6870-radeon-hd-6850-barts,review-32028-23.html

That should more than make up the 10% performance deficit the 460 currently has on the 6850....

What rubbish he's always been up nvidias ass, he just can't take the face amd are doing something good which will cripple nvidia unless they pull their finger out

Woot just got a Saphire one :O I'm not expecting a massive upgrade from a 4870 but it should be nice enough.

184 quid delivered on a Saturday... i dont think that can be beaten..

I admit I havent read ANY reviews yet....

But, the 6850 and 6870 look very underwhelming to me.

Have they outright blown the 460, 5850 and the 470 out the water in terms of price performance?

Doesnt look like it to me. The new cards just look like 5830 ish replacements.....

However! If these are 5830 class gpu's, then the highend will be pretty good indeed!

 You haven't read any review but you decided that they are underwhelming?

Why not read one and then decide?

Anyway, apparantly some HIS 6850 models may come with all 1120sps enabled?

Hopefully it's not just a GPU-Z glitch. :p

I based my blind assumption based on the technical specs of the cards and the price.... and then what my gut instinct says.

By all accounts, im spot on.

There is something strange about the cards tho... like they can do more with less grunt almost

Who's that, Don or Chirs?

Blind assumption can be dangerous, a bit of Googling and you pre order the 6870 for under a £180 which yes pretty much blows all the cards you mention out the water on price/performance. Put it to you another you can pick a video card that gives you 5870 performance, improved image quality, 4 screen monitor support, cool, quiet, low power for less the two hundred notes, sounds like a bargain to me.

the gtx 470 performs better for less money

WoW hates crossfire, so i'm not surprised, but what it dosent say is if that is under DX9 or the new experimental DX11 support or not

I wouldnt say wow hates crossfire, it just doesnt seem to utilise it very well. In my experience with 2 4890's in crossfire the performance is exactly the same as one card. At most times both cards will be running around 40% if I just use one card it runs around 80%. However noticed in a couple of new areas in cataclysm beta both gpus have been hitting 90%+ with fps around 90

So yeah those wow benches seem a little strange

Going by anandtechs performance summary the 470 is 3% quicker than the 6870 averaged over 5 resolutions. That difference is marginal and i doubt you'd notice it. Also the 68xx drivers are still beta and improvements will no doubt come, the 470's drivers are mature by comparrison. I'd still go for the cooler and less power hungry card though. Nice to see hdmi 1.4 on a card with this performance, perfect for home cinema.

It's definately a like for like release even pricing is near identical. My instinct tells me amd can drop the price further should they want to given the die size of these new chips, selling at these prices must be hurting nvidia who cannot wait for 28nm. Would be interested to see the margins for cards from both manufacturers but thats not gonna happen.

For me it was a shame nvidia had no hd audio over hdmi on thier top end cards this generation as it ment i had no choice in what to buy.
