As and when the HD6850 falls to around £130/£140 it will make a great card for a high performacne HTPC.

Indeed.

Whilst it's somewhat more beneficial than SETI, they both are pretty worthless to me and more importantly a waste of electricity (and therefore money).

im so glad i sold my 5870's last month and got silly money for them both, at this rate they are going to be worth no a lot.
do we have all the normal card manufacturers on board or are there any new additions ?
why dont evga do amd ?

Oh boy!! The 6870 pawns 5850. The 6950,6970 and 6990 are going to be killers . It will be very interesting to see how close 6970 comes to 5970 performance wise. The 6990 will just destroy everything lol.


Edit: Will 6990 be 2X6950 or 2X6970?

Seems AMD shipped 2 different types of HD6850 to reviewers, they were supposed to have 960 shaders, some got 1120.

I took a gamble and pre-ordered a Sapphire 6870 earlier this afternoon, and at a good price. Mine's coming tomorrow too.

I better shift my 5770 before I can't give it away.

There's hardly any gain from a 5850 to a 6870, or if there is, it's very minor and not worth spending money for in my opinion. In which case, if you're sticking with a single card, it'll be better to wait for the 69xx presuming you have the money to buy one

I'm hoping the 6850 I ordered has the 1120 shaders. Be interesting to the results if it has. I wont be bothered if not though as I'm not expecting it, my luck isn't that good.

probably going to grab a 6870 very soon and another later for CF depending on performance (a single 6870 will be a nice upgrade from what I have now),
I'm guessing the corsair HX-750 should power 2 just fine?
