For comparison I ran my 5970 on the Unigine 2.1, same settings (with i7 @ 4.0 GHz)

735/1050 : 53 average, 29 min, 140 max
900/1250 : 64 average, 35 min, 168 max

The new cards are looking like good value ......

Just ran it too on my xfire 5850s to check new driver install is OK.

900/1100 : 60 average, 20 min, 156 max
950/1100 : 63 average, 22 min, 160 max

whats happening with the 5970 ?

I'm going to sell it.

I made the mistake of getting the 5970 not knowing how long it was :D It caused few minor problems for me.

I had no choice but to remove the hdd cage to accommodate the 5970 and my storage is pretty much sitting on the bottom of the case unsecured.

Christ, that's not so much of a graphics card than it is a surfboard. You could build houses on that thing.

So guys, Would I be right in thinking the 6870 would be a much better choice of upgrade for eyefinity than a 5850? As I'm looking to be buying one on Tuesday :)

Also any recommendations on the manufacturer? Like Sapphire or Asus or are they mostly the same?

Yes, 6870 > 5850.

I think Asus are one of the top brands (if not the top) hence their high prices, but I prefer Sapphire which is probably a peg below as they offer good components for decent price. It depends on your budget and if you plan to do heavy overclocking I suppose.

For the price, I'm really considering moving from the 1gb 4870 to a 6870, they do have nice performance for the price they can be picked up for.
The 4870's power use at idle/desktop/web browsing is just becoming an annoyance... More of the PCs time is spent not at full load gaming, I need a card that'll do the job.

The only thing that annoys me about the 6850 and 6870 is the naming.
It should be 6770 and 6830 and that's really pushing it for a 68*0 name.

It's just a marketing ploy, I really wouldn't let it get to you. You know what they're are capable of and where they stand compared to other cards so it shouldn't matter what they're called :)
