*** Official 7950 Ice-Q Owners Club***

Hi everyone

I've just bought one of these to replace my XFX DD 7950, installed it and I'm getting no signal at all to my monitor. Reinstalled my XFX and it works just fine, but the HIS just isn't having any of it.

Tried uninstalling the drivers completely and it still doesn't work, totally at a loss here which is unusual for me. Does anybody have any ideas? Anything is appreciated

Thanks

Happened to me the other day, only took a motherboard BIOS update to fix it :)

Whats the safe VRM temp for these cards?

Playing with OC and Ive hit the wall for the core at 1130 @1.81v, but the memory just keeps on going!
Currently at 1600 with stock mem volts, but VRM is on the high 60s.

I have a Z77X-D3H so not sure if it will be the same problem, what card were you having problems with? No idea how to update my mobo's bios but I'll have a look.

When I had my old Z68 motherboard(Z68AP-D3) it also needed a BIOS update to accept my old XFX 7950, then my current motherboard(sig) needed a BIOS update also when I got the HIS IceQ HD7950.

MSI/Gigabyte, MB bios update seems to sort it.

Okay cheers guys hoping this will work, will pick up a memory stick tomorrow and have a go at a mobo update. Will report back.

Edit: Does anybody know which mobo bios update I should be choosing? http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4144#bios

There is a few, I'm assuming the latest one?

Thanks

There is no vrm readout on the Ice-Q's, where you are getting your 60c readout from?

If your MB is currently less than F14, then fingers crossed:

F14-Improve VGA compatibility.

I'd go for the F16 as it will already contain VGA compatibility enhancement.

I had this with my 5770 whenever I was using anything but stock clock settings. I read up on it for a fix but the internet could only say that it is a fault present in the 5 series cards.

If you find a fix let me know. :)

When I first got my 5850 I had this issue and it was due to the cards idle speeds being too low for dual display, using afterburner to increase the idle clocks solved this, but then I got a third display so bought the 5450 to handle the two extra displays leaving my 5850 to just run my main screen and all was well, it's only now that I have changed the 5850 to the 7950 and updated drivers to the latest that the two extra screens have started to flicker running of the 5450...
found a few posts on other forums suggesting removing all AMD drivers and then re-installing again so might give that a try tonight :)

GPUz

Me too. Gpu-z shows a full readout for both my 7950's including vrms but only when crossfire is disabled. When I enable crossfire I get a full readout for the IceQ but only down to vddc for the GBWFX3. Also when xfire is enabled, still on desktop(not gaming etc.) the Gigabyte is no longer idling and goes to default 925core\1250mem and shows 99% usage and temp goes from 28c(idle) to 51c. The IceQ meanwhile is still idling at 300core\150mem, the temp goes up from 32c(idle) to 36c presumably due to the heat from the Gigabyte card. This doesn't seem right to me, anyone know whats happening? :)

Ok answered my own question. Gpu-z when activated and crossfire is enabled causes my second gpu to clock up to default settings and 99% load. At the moment I have enabled crossfire in CCC and my primary card (IceQ) is idling at 300\150. The linked card (GBWFX3) is totally inactive, zero on everything, I checked and the fans are not spinning. The minute I open Gpu-z the IceQ stays the same (300\150) but the GBWFX3 becomes active and goes to 900\1250 stock @ 99% load. I've shut down Gpu-z and the linked card has completely switched off. I ask does anyone with xfire 7950 have the same problem. :)

@Jony27,

Iv'e had mine a while now, just turned off CrossFire and still nothing, they have never reported any vrm readings in a fair few monitoring apps, must be a new revision then I guess...

Matt, are you getting any vrm readings in single card mode/CrossFire???

@rolypolyman,

Zero Core-switches off your 2nd gpu in 2D mode-but there is a performance penalty though.

You can disable ulps(AfterBurner is your easiest way in the settings) to swiitch off Zero Core and your 2nd gpu should sit on idle clocks until you fire up a game and get full use out of CrossFire.

Why GpuZ causes the 99% load, I have no idea though, you could try disabling ulps and see if it does the same.

I get a vrm readout on card two tommy, but not on card one. Card two is locked at 24 & 25c for both vrm readouts.

Found the cause of my second and third displays flickering running off the 5450... i was running an old version of Afterburner, once I uninstalled that the flickering stopped. I'm guessing the old version does not like the latest AMD drivers.

Rock on Tommy :D Disabling Ulps did the trick, both now idling at 300\150. Also getting static vrm readouts of 24c\25c.

Ill will be able to install my 2nd HD7950 over the weekend, so Ill see whether I still get VRM readings on both cards :)

The first rule of crossfire club is disable ULPS. The second rule of crossfire club is never talk about crossfire club. The third rule is never discuss the second rule. The fourth rule is i don't think any of this makes sense.

Unfortunately im now out of the club for breaking the rules.

I was struggling to follow all the rules anyway. :p

7950 arrived today :D

Fits in my case perfectly with my front fan blowing straight onto the GPU fan with temps maxing out at 48c under 1080p furmark and idle at 27C

And the chances of running a second one of these is a no go!
