***Official*** 9800GX2 thread (reviews and benches inside)

435 quid, what a joke.

Also ROFL at the fact you have to mod the 8-pin connector of your PSU to get it to fit on the card.

This card should really cost aobut £350 max, that would make it more attractive. I dont see many trading in their gtx's or ultras for this though.

I have an Ultra and when the price of the 9800gx2 come down ill buy 2 for SLI.

Would be good to go quad SLI

Time being like.... OMFG! what a rip off!

Just bought one for £410. Give it 2 - 4 weeks when more stock arrives and the price will go down further.

I knew the performance would be as good as this. I'm always right.

It was either the 9800GX2 or the 3870X2 + 3870XT, and being as the GX2 is slightly cheaper or around the same price as that, and offers very similar performance, the GX2 was an obvious choice. And 2 cards are too noisy, i've spent a lot of money getting my PC very quiet. And i have a P35 board anyway, so the other PCI-E slot is 4x speed.

Anyway, big fat LOL @ people who bought 3870X2 + 3870XT.

the GX2 looses any advantages as soon as you run at high res with filters.... which i thought was the only situation whereby someone would actually buy this card? It needs to have a useable 1GB of memory or more... not the 512mb pair it has now.

if you game at 24" or above with filters, your better off with an Ultra, and if you game at below 24", why the hell do you need anything more than a GTS?!?

In conclusion, pointless card at stupid price!

Keep it constructive guys. And Andeh, you've now called 9800GX2 buyers "mugs" in two diferent threads now, we get the point, you don't like it. Enough.

This thread is for genuine information and discussion.

Or the fact it only really makes use of 512MB memory and has a smaller bus size?

Go 8800GTX go!

Still faster than one 8800GTX, even the GTS 512 is almost up with the GTX.

You're always right? £410, you've been mugged :D.

I'd get a 9800GX2 If it came down to 300 quid but then proberbly not as my E6600 @ 3.4 would bottleneck it so not much point anyway.

My original 320mb 8800GTS was great until i went into High Res gaming. I then got my cheap Asus Ultra new from the Bay and now game at 24" 1920 x 1200 and its amazing!

Think ill wait for all you eager beavers to buy this one and post reviews. Would be interested to see the performance comparison against an Ultra on Crysis at 1920 x 1200 all High.
