***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

Turn off, disconnect all SATA cables from the board so that only your graphics card, memory and CPU are connected. If it's still doing it, it may be RMA time.

Yeah some things up to be running that slow. If you manage to reflash it and recover then it was a close shave for you. Do you recall what you think went wrong?

Just quick questions Is the 970 evo any good for overclocking?
The difference between 970 and 990 is sli suport right
Any recomended ram from the sale?

Intend to overclock a 8320 for light gaming

Yup. People have got stable 4.8GHz on the 970 EVO R2.0, though I don't think it'd manage higher. The 990FX Pro board has an improved power design, but at £75 the 970 board is brilliant value.

Well I updated to bios 1701 and ever since I can not overclock my rig at all. I've had the battery out and everything, but any overclock is totally unstable.

Am trying to put the bios back to 1602 as I type this and am praying that it sorts things out or I'll have to RMA the board :(

I should have left well alone.

Right you AMD chaps, Which is the best bang for buck AMD Piledriver to buy? currently got an i5 2500k @4.4, i want to run at minimum that speed, its going into a Phantek case under water, can you also suggest ram and a mobo to partner it, im on a tight budget though, £650 needs to cover ram, cpu, mobo, PSU and a 120gb SSD if poss. Ideally id like to spend as little as possbile haha :)

What type of water? AIO? full loop? rad size? etc.

I'd be looking at something like this under custom water:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 AMD 990FX (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £139.99
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8350 Black Edition 4.00GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £139.99
1 x Patriot Viper "Sapphire Blue" 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit (PV38G186C9KBL) £65.99
Total : £345.97 (includes shipping : FREE).

The 8350 may well give >5GHz stable.

The Crosshair Formula Z is a little better but quite a lot extra.

Looks like my rig is borked. I've absolutely no idea whatsoever what's causing it either :(

I can't get it stable above 4ghz no matter how I go about it. FFS. It's done this before but it usually starts to behave. Not this time though :(

Guys really close to buying going
970 evo
83!20
H100
Really stock on ram choice someone mind looking at the friday deals and help pick the best for amd

Try using the bios flash back thing with the last BIOS release?

You don't need an H100 for 4.5GHz - a £30 cooler is more than adequate. And any 1600MHz C9 RAM is fine, plenty at £50 right now.

I got the old bios back on. Same problem, would not go away. I've had the battery out three times, cleared cmos tons of times. Then I noticed that when it booted up after freezing a message came up saying "Memory now OK" or something.

Did some Googling and eventually found a thread where several users say that if you volt the ram manually it will crash. So I set the memory volts back to Auto, 4.7ghz on at 1.39v passed LinX and Cinebench.

If that is what causes it then man, that's fluffing crazy. I don't remember if I ever had a stable high OC with me inputting the memory volts. It could just be that every time this has happened I've eventually left it on Auto.

So I'm hoping that's the issue sorted. I won't be updating the bios as it just says improves stability and I'm a bloody fool because my rig was lovely and stable before !

I've been screwed so many times by updating bioses when I didn't need to. I've killed several boards now (usually due to their clunky and unstable bios update apps) but yeah, why do I do it?

/head bangs.....
