***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

I must have a really cruddy 8320, can't get it IBT stable above 4.6 with anything, been up to 1.52v but could break 4.7!

you will see back at the start of this thread its hard to get cpu stable on prime and ibt over 4.6 due to the massive load they put on cpu

if it games or whatever you use it for without crashing its as stable as your gonna need dude

mine is @ 4.9ghz and not prime or ibt stable but games all day long aida 64 is good as it puts more realistic loads on cpu as gaming would

so to cap it off i wouldn't worry a whole lot m8 as long as it doesn't hard lock blue screen ect :p

finally off for crimbo been a mad year so haven't been here much and time i have had off has been gaming thread has come along way guys and all your rigs look great

i now have the task of reading through all i have missed lol

question off topic of cpu but thought i would throw it at community

my 7970 all of a sudden wont run any game without locking up and i get error message saying "display driver has stopped working and recovered"

i have underclocked it back to factory settings deleted all amd related items re installed, reverted back to old drivers but nothing works grrr

can anyone shed any light on it

hopping the gpu isn't on its way out :( as im broke till new year

Hi farmerboy. Sorry to hear about your 7970. Is it under warranty? I would imagine so as most had 2-3 years warranty. Does this happen when at stock clocks?

Did you do a full clean driver reinstall? If that doesn't work, I would try a fresh partition/install of windows before you write the card off.

i brought it second hand for £170 guy needed quick sale i tend not to buy second hand for this reason no warranty but at that price it was a steal

yes at stock clocks too even put cpu back to stock with no help at all

runs heaven and 3d mark ok no crashes just when on games on steam oddly as bench mark hits it harder than gaming

also heaven seemed really low just hit 900 score not great for a 7970 dont know if its related

I'd bet a clean windows install will sort this. Steam is problematic for no apparent reason at times.

Your card technically could be under warranty even if second hand. Check the serial number on the manufacturer's site to see.

bit the bullet and gone for another reinstall on new ssd drive i was gonna use in new build not 100% sure my ssd wasn't faulty so trying on new one

my previous one has played up in past trying to eliminate all possible causes

hey guys im back at last! been working away forever finally back at base. (some may have seen my steam active my son is the culprit there :) lol

hi to all the new faces

so been playing with my clock speeds again and managed to up my 4.9ghz to the magic 5ghz, so far so good stable as im writing this currently running more test for longer periods to see if it fails, have gamed with it a little and touch wood she is holding up.

ran cinebench and broke the 800 mark 812 to be exact see below

also here are voltages (i managed to get 1.46v i was surprised but at current stable on that i was mega surprised by this, but hey it works, and every clock i have posted has had low voltage compared to most on here must have top chip ;) and also temps, house temp during tests was 20c ( this is idle temps in pic) will post max temps after more tests gaming ect.

I see the thread is still going strong and helping people along never thought it would grow this big!

back now for a while so will be around a lot to help out

peace dudes :D

Hi farmer boy. Those cine bench results are impressive almost on par with a bumped up 4770k.

In speed fan how do you rename all the different temps and fan speeds to which components they are?

Cheers, Damien

hey Damien and welcome to the nut house ;)

I'm not 100% have with this clock atm needs more work when I up my memory from 1333mhz it plays up my ram is pants ordered new ram today avexir green 2133mhz current ram patriot it's pants lol. Should be better once that's in I aim to smash that i7 score : only 10 more points ram may help had to up voltage by 1 more increment but still very low for 8350 chip

On the top menus go to temps and highlight say temp 1 for example and press f2 and you can change there heading you have to determine which temp relates to which components and the same for fan speeds.
which rpm is for which fan so disconnect one then it will show 0 rpm that way you can make sure they match I.e side fan top fan ect.

I didn't have to as I know my pump speed and all my fan speeds

Nice to meet you :D

Been having a fiddle tonight - trying to get 5Ghz stable. Currently at 1.48v but doesn't want to pass realbench :(

Annoyingly, my cinebench score goes up from 777 to 802 just by going from 4.9 to 5Ghz, while only going from 768 to 777 from 4.8 to 4.9, grr

cinebench is ok but i can run one test after another and get different results each time :s lol

lowering multi and uping fsb worked for me to get cpu stable, that and i believe my chip is a rare egg i seem to be able to get high clocks at low voltages :p a 9 series slipped there net here i think hehehe

im somewhat surprised to see this thread still going but its good to see it is! :D

iv more or less completely given up on pc gaming / gaming in general, the pc is rarely even turned on these days so i might pick up where i left and aim for the magic 5ghz again \o/ if it breaks, so be it.. i wont miss it :)

how come dude? your clocking was going well

new ram is in guys (2400mhz team group vulcan) i know that my mobo dont support that high but @ £53 compared to £70 for 2133mhz no brainer underclocked it and tightened timmings all running sweet.

5ghz is still stable touch wood :/
