***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

My 8350 was £159 on preorder at overclockers.co.uk. October 2012

My crosshair V was £100 on the MM offset by £40 sale for my M5A99X which cost me £50 also on the MM so about £110 :)

Why are water cooling loops always about £200? Admittedly this one has an expensive NB / Mosfet block at £64 but whenever I look at watercooling, it always seems to cost me about that even buying some parts secondhand. Thus far, new CPU block £30, NB / Mosfet £65, secondhand D5 vario + top and a radiator for £65. I still need fittings and a small reservoir, so £200 it is :(

Back at stock for everything except RAM settings.

I havnt touched a thing with my memory yet...just noticed had 8packs confirmation I can go upto 1.65V with my memory so hopefully will give me a bit of headway to get 5ghz stable :D

@ Th0nt

You were getting 588 because you had 220 bus clock and 1067MHz memory set I think.

1067 x 220/200 / 2 = 587MHz

If you had 1333MHz memory set in the bios, it would give 1467Mhz DDR at 220MHz bus and you could use the standard timings 9-9-9-24. I would initially overvolt to 1.6V to ensure that the memory was not going to fall over.

That's pretty much where my memory is sitting atm (1467).

I tested in Memtest and these settings I tweaked are fine for RAM. I used 1.6v and the timings above.

So leaving it at these settings but changing to 1333mhz, then going back to my CPU overclock (with 220fsb) should be an improvement?

That sounds right, selecting 1333 memory in the bios will allow you to up the FSB to 1600/1333 x 200 = 240MHz without exceeding the 1600MHz DDR rating of your memory.

Loop now fully specced and paid for.

EK LTX CPU block black
EK NB / Mosfet block for Crosshair V black
240mm rad from the MM (Thanks to CoolBreeze)
D5 pump and top from the MM (Thanks to Biffa)
Bitfenix red 40mm water tank
Black XSPC comp. fittings frrom the MM (Thanks to UnworthyBean)

Yep indeed. This should be good with your FSB overclock. I would play a little more with memory while everything else is on auto to see how tight you can get timings and how high you can overclock it at 1.65V if you have time. I managed to get my G skill set to 2133MHz CAS9 timings (which are the xmp settings for 1866MHz for this kit).

I would bet your kit can go to 1866MHz at good timings. Try 9-10-9-28 2T at 1866MHz initially and see if it boots at 1.65V but give your memory some more current (120%) and optimise phases in Digi+.

Exciting times buddy!

I've been doing some shopping too lads :D I bought a 4890 Vapor X and a Scythe Ninja for my lady's rig :)

Just need some ram now. 4gb 1333 kit would work just to get it firing :)

Yeah she gets the Alienware Area 51 ALX so she should be :D

She games on her laptop but some of the games she's bought lately are running like crap (Burnout Paradise and Anna) so I'll hook it into the 50" TV and give her my small wireless KBM :)
