***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

Only problem with some in built game benchmarks is that they tend to not be indicative of the game performance.

I remember loads, Tomb Raider, Rome Total War 2, Just Cause 2, Crysis etc etc.

Yes agree, but at least we can get an indication. Have also just predownloaded BF4 so will test that on some multiplayer maps. Will try to compare with my Intel system too.

Very true. You can add Hitman to that too. The benchmark gives me mins of 36 FPS yet when I actually play it it flies along.

The Just Cause 2 benchmark is hard on a system too..

Alex - I don't remember if the GPU score was different. I'll need to look mate. I do know that the physics score was much higher, as was the overall score.

I'd wait till launch before trying to take anything away from BF4 to be honest, from the last I remember, it's an old build.

OK Alex got some data for you..

Windows 7 cpu @ 4.2ghz. Now the next score will be massively better as I'm running 5ghz on Windows 8, but it's the physics score that seems to change, not the graphics score.

I can't overclock my 670s because one of them hates it. Won't even do 15mhz.

I'm mega, mega proud of that physics score tbh. That's bloody insane for a 8320.

Keep the testing momentum going! :)

I didn't think Win 8 would be a hindrance on the overclocking, I would also say it's not as flaky as previous iterations like ME and vista. I cant update from 8 -> 8.1 as it's an evaluation version even though sometimes on bootup it wants me to click the update and goes to the 'store'.

That's the one I was supposed to post. I was sooo bloody close to 10k ! it's kinda like the 800 cinebench for me now lmao I'm bloody determined to make it to 10k !

I should be able to do it running one GPU. I always score higher physics on one.

Andy that is a nice physics score. WHat clock was the CPU at on this? Win 8 looks as though it produces a massive improvement on firestrike at least. I doubt OS makes much difference in games though at present. If stability increases on the CHVFZ with the next bios revision, I will consider it again. My Cinebench score of 829 was only achievable on 7 ultimate. 8 wouldn't play as well.

5ghz. I can not get the chip stable for Firestrike at 5.2ghz yet. Windows just locks. Not tried 5.1 though I will.

What I'm really looking forward to though is seeing what I can get out of my other system. The one with the 8320 (6 months old) and the Asus 4+2. The reason? well it cost less than a 4670k CPU. If I can get it anywhere near the 4670k in Firestrike or Cinebench? I'll be a very happy man.

I'm a strong advocate for value for money. I would be, I'm really careful when buying anything. I bought my lady's laptop for £500. It's absolutely pristine, brown box from Asus. The cheapest one on that horrid crap auction site is £799, used and tatty. Even Asus wanted £899 for a refurb !

Then there's the telly. Because we got her laptop so cheap we figured what the heck, let's replace our 50" LCD that is bleeding (it's dying) and rarely powers on unless you switch off the mains socket and turn it back on.

I found a Toshiba 40" LED smart TV with 200hz active 3d for £328 next day. The set retailed for over £500. I'm hoping to get it working with my lady's rig which will be 8320 and 670 SLI based. THAT will be awesome lol.

7990 looks awesome. My upgrades for this week may not have quite the same wow factor, but here they are!:

I didn't realise the antenna was going to be over a foot high... it's monstrously big:

My new headphones are in the post office unfortunately, hopefully I'll be able to pick them up tomorrow :-)

lmao dat antenna ! looks like something a doctor would use to examine your prostrate :D

Nice upgrades though man, that sound card looks lovely !

What the bejezus is that for - searching for E.T comms?

Like bolacks lol. I've seen no bottlenecks with my FX at all.

Well if you have been reading other threads lately apparently it's fact. T'is why I'm even more interested in your's and alex' feedback. Come xmas or just after if this card is the sweet spot then I am investing in one (dont tell the wife)!

Think im having trouble with my Asrock 970 Extreme 4 with my Amd 8350.

As it's a 4+1 it's not the best board for Overclocking as you guys have already stated, basically i think this board is throttling somehow as i get huge spikes when multi tasking.

I would like a really good board to deal with the 8350, fancy overclocking it to 4.4ghz without having the know how! (any way to just do this through the bios with a click of a button?!)

do you think my CPU spikes would dissapear if i changed out the Mobo, Also... As im runnning Windows 7 on an SSD, would i need to re-install windows to get it to work with a new mobo?
