***Official AMD Mantle Thread***

I don't know exactly, everything seems to be pretty vague. AMDMatt's post said it's not going away. Since AMD and it's customers seem to be so anti-proprietary I was just wondering when this would be made open for everyone.
I remember a lot of people on here saying it would be made open, even going as far a making bets, which they later changed their minds on after the deadline for 'going open' had past.

Since PhysX and GSync and everything is bad because it's restricted to Nvidia cards I was assuming that being an AMD product it wouldn't be proprietary. I just wondered when this would be? Or is it not happening and is proprietary ok now?

I was right then, clear skipping over the other part that Mantle based/evolved=Khronos=open, it was and still is baiting for a forum argument:cool:

No, I'm talking about Mantle not Vulkan.

AMDMatt's post had the quotes:

It's important to clarify that we're not retiring Mantle, nor is it going away. In 2015, the Mantle graphics API has broader applicability in solving graphics industry problems than ever before.

So despite Vulkan being based on the Mantle spec, it looks like there is still a product called Mantle.

Mantle as a standalone API continues to evolve in private with a consortium of game developers interested in furthering the standard for new and innovative use cases..

Mantle as a standalone API, not Vulkan, Mantle, continues to evolve.

I can see you're trying to start an argument here Tommy and that you dearly want to believe that Mantle has just become Vulkan and that they are one and the same, but that's not what the quotes from AMDMatt are suggesting.
So I'm asking what's happening with Mantle, not Vulkan, Mantle. Just to be really clear, not asking about Vulkan or DX12, I'm asking about Mantle that is according to AMDMatt/Huddy continuing to evolve.

Looking like Mantle is the back end for their VR, it's not an underlying rule everything needs to go through DX=everyone else can use Khronos as the back end for anything too.

AMD achieved what they set out, made an api, handed it over for everyone=open-or are you saying they didn't hand it over to be open it up for everyone?

Handing it over and making it open for all doesn't mean they can't use a recognised branding for themselves.

Grats googly, job done, see you around.:)

+1 It's not hard to grasp either.

It's hard to keep everyone happy as i thought the best possible outcome of Mantle was to hand it over so Nvidia would support it. Under AMD's control Nvidia would never have supported Mantle but they should be happy to do so with Vulkan.

It was explained back in March. You want Mantle in games? Go for DirectX 12 and Vulkan. Mantle is not going to be public. Rather than doing that they given it to Khronos group. Mantle for the time being will only be used for customer with special needs.

I doubt you will get more information than that.

But it talks about a 'private with a consortium of game developers' will still be using it. So what they're using is it going to be proprietary or open?

Everyone keeps seeming to make this about Vulkan, but I'm not asking about Vulkan. Matt's quote says the Mantle API spec served as the foundation for Vulkan. That doesn't mean it's just Mantle by another name, if it was it wouldn't have Nvidia or Intel support as Mantle didn't.
Back in the day AMD weren't saying that they were developing Mantle so they could give the spec over to someone else to make open and that's not what people on this forum were arguing either.
AMD said they would keep control so they could change it quicker to include new features in their hardware. Doesn't sound a lot like 'hand it over to a 3rd party so it can be made more generic and we have less control'.

Well, it seams like they changed their minds and they don't intend to make the Mantle SDK public. You can keep asking question but you are not really going to get answers.

Battlefield Hardline, everything on MAX, res scale 100%, FOV 85 and a run around the dust bowl map on an empty server with a ping of about 30-40:

DX

That min. FPS difference  Although as you can see, there isn't much difference when it comes to the average FPS but in game, mantle feels much smoother than DX.

Although got to say, very good job by Visceral and AMD, with BF 4, the difference is even bigger, bf 4 is just a horrible stuttery mess with dx on my rig.....

Hardline MP still looks crap even with everything on max :p

edit:

and yes that is the bf 4 frame time analyser tool but since both games use the same engine, it works just fine for hardline too.

Does anyone remember the days when BF4 was packed with amd cards ? I am extremely fed up with DICE, bf4 was always my game of choice and after trying several solutions I couldn't fix my CPU spikes on bf4. I tried one more thing and that is to switch to DX11 and woala game works no cpu spikes...downside you ask ? rather then 190 FPS I get 90... which is rubbish...mainly because I use 144hz monitor.... I give up on this...

Wanna hear a joke tho... if i wanna play with dx on 144fps i have to play on medium setting with 295x2 !!!""!"!£!"£ LOL LOL LOL

i get corrupted /flashing textures in bf4, so have gone back to dx11. am thinking about get a 980ti as their drivers have much better cpu utilization and smoothness. hopefully dx12 will mean all the bugs will be ironed out as it'll be for both vendors

On those figures can you blame developers for not supporting the PC as much as console. That's shocking especially when you add up the peaks across the 4 consoles. I never thought it was that bad.

Oh yes its defiantly a console port, the characteristics of the game are Console, right down to the random software kill assists consoles have because of the wonky game pad nonsens.

5 Minutes of constant WTF?!?!?!!? before Alt+F4 out to stop your blood from boiling over, i have 6 hours on the game and have had it for months.
