*** Official AMD Phenom II X6 1055T & 1090T Overclocking Thread ***

My loop goes Res/Pump -> CPU -> 120mm -> GPU -> 240mm -> Res/Pump.

No GPU shouldn't affect a prime run much, but may affect idle temps more. well, that's the way it works in my logic :)

To be honest I've not run Prime95 for much more than an hour yet. The trouble is the system is built around an OcUK pre-overclocked bundle (@ 3.8GHz). When I originally got it I ran prime and the motherboard caught fire (yes, with water-cooling ). I got it RMA'd but have been nervous with the new system in case there's an inherent fault with the motherboard (which I doubt, or why would OcUK use it?) or something.

Mostly inexperience and the inability to get it into my head that the order doesn't really matter. In my head the CPU would kick out less heat than the 2 GPUs so I put the 120mm rad after the cpu to cool the water after that and then the 240mm after the graphics card as I thought 4870x2s ran hotter so needed more cooling.

If I did it again I'd probably try to just do the shortest loop and ignore the order.

These look quite interesting, but I'm not sure what motherboard is best value : overclock - I've heard the Crosshair IV is the best (but its ~£250) so tad too expensive for me lol.

Looking for any other motherboard, mATX if possible but if that affects the o/c (mATX) then whats the best ATX?

Thanks

Whats in the loop 1st? Does your system go

Rad > CPU > 4870x2 ?

Surely prime won't make your GPU get hot anyway?
Does your temp rise above 46c after more than an hour of Prime95?

Did a 5 hour run of Prime95 last night. Temperatures were cooler because of ambient I guess. this time it didn't go over 43C. I think it hit about 41C within the first hour, so doesn't seem to be a lot of fluctuation over time.
My GPU temp did go up too, to about 40C as I recall (from 36C) but I guess this is because the water flowing through the block is warmer.

4 ghz 250*16 1.425V CPU NB 2.6Ghz 1.225V
IBT 20pass ok, 5hours Prime ok
temps on load 50 max
can't be bothered to oc higher...not worth it

^ entirely depends on what you use the computer for

have you tried unlocking the x2? could get some free performance :D
