*Official* Antec 1200 Case's,Builds,Modifications & FAQ's

nice case for the money, not exactly a looker by any stretch of the imagination but i'm not one to get jiggy with it late at night by looking at my case :p;)

tossing up between this and the Lian Li PC-P80 or possibly the V2110 also, i really like the front door on the PC-P80 and as i'll be replacing the hard drive trays anyway this 1200 is probably not going to work quite out as well for me .....although it looks like the front part of the hdd tray containing the fan/filter is removable from the main part so i could probably fix it to the new drive bays i would be putting in with my ninja modding skills?????

the other niggle is that this case doesn't look especially deep, ie not much space betwee the drives and the edge of the motherboard or maybe those hdd bays are just very deep???....this is going to be a server build with about 10 hard drives so the more space the better.

get a lot of case for the money however, great bang per buck deal.

Nope, its completely custom, albeit ~2 years old :(

Hoping to get some watercooling in there before 2009. Re: Soloman, never thought of putting a rad internaly on the back, looks neat and tidy but I'll be mounting mine outside.

Most of the cables have no been hidden away I'll get some pics soon again.
 
spec is in my sig. temps are 49 49 43 43 load. @ 3.6GHz after a few hours of prime with all fans set at min speed.

I have just ordered one of these for my Asus Rampage Formula, i am not getting the cooling i want in my Thermaltake Soprano.

I did also buy a Asus Blue Squared Cooler, but it does not fit due to the Heatsink array round the northbridge and cpu.

Will have to make do with the Zalman CNPS9500A for now and hope the system becomes a lot cooler..... im sure it will with all them fans and nice cable management.

did you buy new fans for the front or replace the leds in the existing fans?
I'm tempted to go red with mine but then I'd have to mod my Logitech G15 keyboard and Razer Copperhead mouse to match.


On another topic I see in the latest issue of Custom PC the Antec 1200 came out top for aircooling out of loads of cases. They performed thermal imaging tests on all cases.
 
I'm hoping that someone can help me, I'm just about to throw my newly bought Antec 1200 out of the window...and considering the weight of it I'll probably kill an innocent passerby lol.

Have put my motherboard in, connected everything to the motherboard leaving the drives until last. I've put 2 DVD drives in the two topmost bays without a problem, but am having trouble fitting my floppy/card reader into the next bay down. As far as I can see from the dodgy photographs in the poor instruction book I've done everything right. I've bunged the drive into the adapter and screwed it in at the screw hole by the round hole in the adapter. The drive is sitting around a couple of centimetres out from the adapter at the end where the floppy cable goes and the front of the drive is about half a centimeter out at the front but when I try and slide the adapter into the case it gets stuck and won't go any further!!!

I've tried inserting the drive in every way I can think of. I know that the front of the adapter should be facing the front of the case and the adapter if you look at it from the front or back is a U shape. Am I trying to insert it upside down or something..?

Please help before I kill someone!!! :p

Edit: got it sorted now, I was being overly dense and didn't see a shelf that was blocking the thing. Have put it in the bay below now lol :D

Can't am still struggling. Okay, this is what I have. 2 DVD drives in the first two bays. What I want to do is put the floppy/card reader on the one below it. It doesn't fit, there's a shelf blocking it. I thought it might be something to do with the 3.5" adapter so I decided to have from the top downwards - DVD, floppy/card reader, DVD. But the DVD drive won't fit. What's the point in having a drive bay that you can't put anything in..? :confused:

I'm not sure what to do now, will I have to remove one of the fans at the front just to put in my floppy/card reader..? :confused:

Edit: Aw bugger, it pulls out lol :D

the shelf comes out, not sure if it comes screwed in or not. You can definately fit 3 drives in & have all the fan cages in, I have a DVD rewriter, floppy & fan controleer + the 3 fan/hdd bays in mine

The shelf is for you to put a pump on if you watercool your system
 
Yup, cheers...I can't believe I spent 2 hours on that. I'm not used to complicated cases like this, I've always gone for the cheapo crappy cases made of razor blades. The only fan on the one I'm using now is from the power supply. Just got to bung my hard drive in now and then I'm ready to switch it on I think. Will post later and let you all know how it goes, and will post some pics tomorrow once I've bought some gaffer tape for my cabling. Another first for me, tidying cables...my machines are normally spaghetti junction jobs lol. :D

Edit: The cable for my floppy/card reader is getting in the way a bit but I can't be arsed to mess about with it now. Going to bung my spare cables down the hole and switch on after I've given myself a hernia lifting the bloody case...weighs a bloody tonne lol :D

Another edit: My bloody monitor has gone **** up, blue phosphor is buggered...looks like I'm going to have to wait until I've sorted out an RMA before I can play around with my new machine in all it's glory. Going to have to use my crappy 19" CRT for a while by the looks of it. :( No problems with anything else so far though, but I haven't looked at the temperature of the thing yet!

Bought myself a 1200 and despite it costing an arm and a leg, it's worth every penny. Huuuuuuuuuge case with loads of room for those massive graphics cards you get these days, easily enough space for a custom CPU heatsink, excellent airflow and it's so quiet (Compared with my previous one)!

Very impressed with it :D Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
 
Okay, it's now sitting on my desk...literally larger than life lol. The thing is nearly as big as I am lololol.

Without the sides of the case on (because I couldn't be arsed to mess about with the screws lol) when I switched it on and had a look in my Asus Rampage BIOS the Northbridge and Southbridge were around 27-29 degrees and the cores were all around 19-21 degrees. Not too sure if that's any good really considering I've got the case open lol.

I've had a mess around with the Catalist 8.10 thingy and got my 1Gb 4870 fan running at 40% and it's not too loud and at the moment is giving me a very cool 37 degrees. The middle fan on the 1200 is blowing nice cold air on it too which must be doing it a bit of good I reckon. :D

I'm very glad I bought this case, worth every penny even though it weighs a bloody tonne. Mind you, not a bad thing I suppose...at least if someone breaks into my flat they'll do themselves an injury carrying it off lololol :D

I might try connecting my 24" monitor through the DVI connection, couldn't be arsed to switch cables when I went from the old machine to the new one. Perhaps it's just the VGA that's buggered? Have my clunky 19" CRT connected to the DVI with the adapter and the colour is fine so it's either the monitor itself gone **** up or just the VGA cable maybe..? :confused:

Took some pics earlier showing my tangle outside the case, I post them up if I can find my Nokia CD to download them. :D
 
I know how you feel snowdog, I'd always had cheapo cases before I got a 1200 a couple of months ago. Its a beats of a case & worth every penny imo.

I spent ages on my cable tidying etc because of the window, I even bought some UV lights & UV sleeving for the cables.
 
Mine will look great through the window, it's the other side that's all of a tangle lol. Not sure if I'm going to be able to close the bloody case lol, will have another look tomorrow and start tying the things down. Will need to redo some of them, I've managed to get a few crossed over. I never was a tidy person lol :D

Have just sorted out a couple of pics that I took yesterday. I may have cjhanged things around since as far as the cabling goes, but it's not too much different I don't think.

But the side with the window doesn't look too bad. That floppy drive cable is going to be a pain...might just bung it to one side and gaffer tape it down somewhere, but otherwise it doesn't look too bad for my first ever tidy(ish) cable arrangement. As I said earlier, I've always had the inside of my cases looking like Spaghetti Junction...but seeing as I've forked out nearly £1100 worth of gear I thought I'd better make the effort lol.
