*****Official Ashes thread*****

492-9 declared, Smith leaves with 137 not out...stunning innings from both him and Watson. Aussies definitely needed big scores from their batsmen, sadly only 2 really made the big runs needed.

Will be interesting to see how well they bowl against England.

Australia have done well so far, few of them are playing for their future's, England, well not much fire in their bellies being 3-0 up and 3 new caps playing. Not pre-emptive excuses, just don't think we've looked that interested so far.

Smith must surely have been a bit upset to have a declaration made within 12 of his 150. Odd timing, could have just let him have a slog.

England's negativity is starting to do my head in a bit - the ludicrously slow over rates and the openers' approach to the new ball are just painful to watch.

Well looks like the gamble to bring in some newbies didn't really pay off :p

Disappointed for Tremlett that he didn't get a chance to play but I guess he's a known quantity at Test level whereas the noobs need a bit of blooding.

Still, you have to start somewhere with Test experience and without any Tests against Bangladesh any time soon this Aussie side in a won series is a reasonable substitute :D

England's highest opening partnership of the series. 49-0.

I was thinking this last night, I cant remember the last time we made it over 30 without losing a wicket (touch wood, touch wood, touch wood, touch wood, touch wood, touch wood, touch wood, touch wood, touch wood, touch wood, touch wood, touch wood, touch wood, touch wood, touch wood, touch wood)

This will probably end up as a draw i think unless England collapse but with Root getting his 50, wouldnt be surprised if he goes onto make a century.
