**Official Asus A8N-SLI Premium Thread**

Wow Craig, nice wire tidying skills :D

ACPCUP: The board is pretty darn nice & silent! Main quibbles I have with it are lack of many memory dividers under 1:1, and it doesnt seem to want to let my Winny use 1T over 298 fsb. No matter though, I've got an Opty 146 waiting for me at home! So all round a smashing board.

Ty :p
Its a bit messier than normal to be honest, just recently fitted the fatality gfx and cpu coolers and have gfx cooler running from a molex rather than my fan controller, I need to give it a dust out so will sort the cables properly on the weekend

What has now put me off getting the premium is:

1. Lots of problems on this thread
2. I am not going to use SLi
3. Cost

Is it still worthy of getting though? I would have to change the fan on the A8N-E anyway as i hate noisy fans!!

What should i do?

I think you'll find most of the probs on this thread are fairly niggly.. and the silent NB sold it for me.. had a few asus boards and whilst not the best clockers (still good though) they always seem solid.

Pricey though, I'll give you that.

Needs to be a solid board. Not sure if it worth the extra expense though. Would i be better off getting the A8N-E and slapping a Zalman on the Northbridge? The fan detectors in the bios can be disabled?

Does anyone know if i would be able to have, two S-ata Harddrives has RAID, but also have two harddrives has Non-RAID all connected at the same time to the A8N-SLi Premium?

If it does am for buying it coz i really need to buy a mobo for my lonely 3800x2 :(

This board has been rock solid from day 1 for me. Much better than the DFI board I had before which didn't like my ram. I'm not running SLI at the moment but like the idea of being able to add a second 7800 GTX at a later date for a little speed boost.

Its an expensive board but the quality is superb, its also got a good working heatpipe for the chipset and has a lot of other features.

Without first reading this thread [D'oh!] I ordered an A8N Premium along with a Lian-Li V1100 plus. Does the plus offer any advantages over the V1100 standard that would alleviate the heatpipe problems reported here? Looks like I'll have to spend even more on this incredibly expensive computer even before I've got it out of the boxes!

Matt you should have a lower system temp with the plus model, it has a gfx blower and cpu duct over the std model. I think most people with inverted boards are using a zalman n/b heatsink attached to the asus coolpipe, if you go back through the thread you will see some posts about it.

Yeah I think I'll have to get me one of those.

How does the passive Zalman on top compare to users who have the mobo the right way up? Is this always going to be just a passable compromise rather than an equal match in terms of temps?

My chipset is far too hot which may explain the lockups that occur about once or twice a week. The screen just freezes with whatever was being displayed last.

I can't touch the chipset for more than a second and I've checked all the other components. Case is cooled by two Vantec Stealths at 7V. Wish I went DFI now. :(

You think I should bother RMAing or save up for the DFI?

Have you tried reseating the cool pipe? I personally dont have high temps, so i find all these high chipset temp posts puzzling.
I would go for a rma before buying a new mobo m8, no point in waisting money ;)

Thanks. :)
I'll give it a try and then if that doesn't work, I'll try what ted has done with the Zalman heatsink. If I had a tiny cooking pan, I could cook an egg on it - it's that hot.
