**Official Asus A8N-SLI Premium Thread**

I've just picked up this board to go with my new case. I have one problem however - when I install the X-Fi drivers my computer BSODs.

I have seen this issue just on the creative forum. I was wondering if anyone had encountered the error and found a fix.

I am using 1009 BIOS and the X-Fi extreme music is in PCI Slot 2.

Is there a general consensus on what RAM works best with the Premium? I've had nothing but trouble with soze OCZ "Performance Series" so looking to replace it. I'd like a 2gb kit, that will allow me to o/c my Opty 146 to 2.8ghz or more, I don't mind running dividers :) What do you think?

i run the zalman passive cooler on top of nb even though motherboard is right way up and it lowered my temps by nearly 10degrees

Wow that is impressive. I'm glad I bought one now. 3 cable ties later and it's snugly attached. Just got to build everything else before I can try it. I will be attaching an Akasa fan controller temperature sensor to the side of it to keep a close eye on the heat.

What are your before and after temps?

Was up at 38 degrees before with 1.6v but when putting the zalman on went down to 30 degrees. I have now lowered it down to 1.5v and still stable but didnt make any difference to temp which was weird. Have also rigged up a silent fan blowing across the zalman and graphics card (my x800 is passive and at 400/980) for any hot summer days - not that they ever come about in edinburgh - lol

Ia there a way to slow the fans on this board? The CPU Fan seem sto be fine but the 2 at the rear of the case are going balls out. I have checked and Qfan is enabled in the bios but they are still going full whack.. is there a program to alter the speed?

Q-Fan controls whatever fan is plugged into the CPU-fan header and the fan that is plugged into the fan header in the bottom right hand side of the motherboard. None of the other fan headers are controlled.

bugger... is there anything i can install to control or reduce them?

if they're plugged into the mobo 3 pin headers can't you use speedfan or mbm?

Anyway, what voltage range am I likely to get with an opteron installed as it tops out at 1.5v for my 4400. I think I'll need high 1.6s to get the clock I want from this 144.

i need an tool to tell me if me ram is running at T1 as i am not sure if the mobo is setting it to t2 agane
sandra says T1 @ ddr 400 and ddr @ 500 it says T2 CPU-Z does not give this info

AMD64 X2 3800 OC to 2.5ghz (10*250mhz 1.48v)
a8n-sli prem
Crucial 2x1GB DDR500 Ballistix (250 3-3-3-7-(T1/T2 ?) 1.75v) (BL2KIT12864Z503) (OC good price buy :) )
680W purepower

other queston i have as well (if any ones got an linky for this info i am asking be nice) ram timeings in bios i got Tcl(3), Tras(7), Trcd(3), Trp(3) (i know of) Trfc (16), Trwt (16), Twr (6), {i know of not what to even set them to} what i think is command rate -1T/2T memorey timeing - i set that to 1 but sranda says 2 still

this is my first OC with an amd64 system

1.55v is the max voltage for single core cpu's although asus probe reports my voltage at 1.568v and sometimes 1.584v even though its set to 1.55v in bios

everest home edition tells you loads about your system and is free. the command rate is in computer/overclock. for memory settings you should try and keep the 3 your unsure of as low as possible but in reality it makes very little difference to performance. should be around: trfc: 12, trwt and twr: 2.

There are a couple of other settings in the bios and i found messing with them managed to get my memory more stable. from the top of the cpu interface page downwards mine reads:
400
2.5
6
3
3
9
12
5
3
1t
Enabled
Enabled

Obviously you will need different settings but this should help as a rough guide.

Hi Guys,
I tried reading through this thread but my head got pickled :p
I'm awaiting on my delivery of the Asus premium sli mobo.
Just one quick question from people who are using this board.

What do you recommend as the best ram to run.I am after 2Gb (2*1gb)
I was looking at ....
Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3200C2PT
Crucial Ballistix pc4000

or any others?

All help/comments appreciated.
If it helps it will be running with following specs...

AMD x2 4400
Seasonic 600w PSU
Asus 7800GTX

Thanks,
Ray

Anyone care to tell me whether this lot will work together?

newpccomponentlist8ee.jpg

Specifically, will the PSU wires reach the MoBo through the case (I know the Hiper Type-R wires don't), the CPU and RAM compatability, too.

Plus, if there's anything there that you know I might have trouble with because of the MoBo.

I think I read somewhere that I need to flash the BIOS for it to be comatible with the AMD X2 4800+. Anyone care to verify?

should be ok (i recommend getting the WD secure connect cables tho, the Sata cables are not very good in starying in)

the Bios there is an new bios 1009 (from posting date) i think dual core have been out long now so you sould get one that supports it out of the box (if it does not all you get is an 4800 that is UNKNOWN on boot up or unknown @ 2.4ghz) norm just the bios up date will fix that (still update to 1009 bios any way)

I'm having a boot order problem and I hope someone can help. I have 2 x Raptor 74GB connected to the NV SATA ports 1 and 2, and a WD 300GB connected to SATA port 3. I have enabled the RAID functionality on ports 1 and 2 and successfully setup a stripe with the two raptors.

The problem is I can't get the RAID stripe to be detected as C:. Window XP install always has the 300GB as C:, and the RAID as D:. I have modified the HDD boot order putting the RAID first, as well as the summary boot order to CDROM, Floppy, HDD, Disabled.

Has anyone managed to get a similar setup working as C:? Maybe I need to use different SATA ports on the mobo?

I haven't installed Windows yet. Although in the past I have successfully renamed a system drive [and it's not as simple as renaming the drive letter, lots of registry editing as well!] I'd rather get the boot order right before getting that far.

I have now enabled RAID on the 300GB disk. At this stage all that does is hide it from the XP installer [as it's not part of a RAID set], so now it sees the RAID as C:. I'll re-enable that disk afterwards and hope the RAID stays as C:.
