**Official Asus A8N-SLI Premium Thread**

I'm doing a re-install soon and was wondering if its worth my while flashing the bios to v1.17

I currently have v1.09 and theres not a bother with it.

With this motherboard would it be possible to run 2 'BFG 3DFuzion GeForce 7600 GT's and an Asus Ageia PhysX Accelerator!!

Plus what sort of wattage would i need from my psu?

THANKX.

hello everyone, little update here :)

NETWORK PROBLEMS FIX

ive had this board for nearly a year now and had intermittent problem with the 2 onboard network cards.

intitially i was using the nvidia NIC with the drivers but that was buggy and after being on for a few hours would just drop the connection. i then switched over to the marvell NIC and that worked fine for about 4 months. all of a sudden the network started playing up again.

i dug out an old 3com 10/100 PCI card and stuck it in PCI 3 so it doesn't have to share any resources and WOW, its fixed loads of stupid bugs.

first of all theres no lagging and high memory use in bit torrent and all the uploads/downloads work correctly. the ping times and general performance on the network is tons better so i highly recommend people to get a decent old branded NIC card for a fiver or tenner off ebay or an old dell machine you've got lying around.

hope that helps :)

Is there a program to flash the bios of the A8N-SLI deluxe from within windows? Having problems locating my floppy drive.

The software that comes with the mobo has Asus update, you can flash the bios from there, Ive used it and it works fine.

I have been having serious problems with the nVidia firewall for the last few weeks, I've also read about others having similar problems and basically the only thing for it is a format and re-install of windows. A word of warning to others, do not install this crap firewall!

Anyway I was wondering after I re-install windows do I need to install anything besides the latest nForce4 drivers(6.70)? I have an Audigy2 so wont need audio drivers. Can't think of anything else really except SATA drivers(I'm not raided) and an Ethernet driver but do these not come under the nForce4 driver?

I used to have nVidia firewall problems with my Abit board, the way i solved it was to uninstall all the nVidia drivers & software from the system, then run driver cleaner, then re-install the drivers, but not selecting the firewall software during driver install.
Then i just installed any old software firewall, Sygate in my case.
That solved it for me. :)

Hi all,

Seem to be feeling a bit thick today!

I am looking for the latest NForce drivers for this board, and am on the Nvidia website, but am unable to figure my way around the options available.

I have selected 'Platform / nForce Drivers' as the first option, then in the second option I don't know what to select for my Asus A8N!

Any help to get the latest drivers would be magic as I think the ones on my CD are a wee bit old!

Also, can anyone assist with configuring MBM5 for this board please?

Thanks

Platform/nForce Drivers > > nForce4 Series AMD > > Windows XP/2000

nForce4 series - Windows 2000/XP - Version: 6.86

Yes if u drop me an email (in trust) I can send you the 'data' files for MBM.

Can't sucessfully overclock mine

This may be not the correct thread to post this but anyway............

I've got a 3800 dual core CPU and a ASUS A8N-SLI Premium M/B with 2GB of Kingston Hyper Ram (4 sticks). My memory frequency has to be 167.5MHz (known issue of 4 sticks of ram with this M/B). All attempts to adjust processor speed cause the ram speed to go up even though I've got the Max Memclock set to DDR333 (167M.5Mhz) in the BIOS. What am I doing wrong. Has anyone else with similar ram config to me managed to sucessfully overclock their CPU without lifting the ram speed. If so please share your BIOS settings with me!

Thanks,

Ian

Hi IanK,

I think you may be misunderstanding what the BIOS is telling you, and to be fair you wouldn't be the first.

The memory settings that say DDR400, DDR333 etc are not absolute/fixed settings but rather a divider. DDR400 is 1:1 sync so if you raise your FSB to 250MHz thats the speed at which the memory will run (even though its still saying DDR400 in BIOS).

You are using the DDR333 setting which is a lower divider meaning it will run the memory at a slower rate than the FSB, but as you start raising the FSB the memory will still slowly rise up at well.

You can't 'lock' the memory speed in the same way that you can 'lock' the PCI bus.

In their newer boards, ASUS have adjusted the memory speed readout in BIOS to reflect what actual speed it will be running at, so if I adjusted the FSB to 250MHz and I would see DDR500 in the BIOS instead of what you are seeing (DDR400).

I think the CPU effects this as well, different CPU's have different memory controllers?

Hope that helps! :)

Hi Big Wayne,

Thanks for the reply. I still don't understand! Using CPU-Z I can see the following:

CPU TAB

Core Speed 2010.3Mhz
Multiplier x 10.0
HTT 201.0Mhz

Memory TAB

Frequency 167 MHz
FSB:DRAM CPU/12

Are you suggesting that I change the Max Memclock from DDR333 to say DDR266 in the bios and increase the CPU core speed from 200 to say 250?

UPDATE

I've set the memclock to 266 and the cpu core speed to 250 and I'm now getting what I wanted i.e. 2500MHz CPU and 167Mhz Ram.

Many thanks for the help!

Ian

i currently have 2 gig of ram (2x1 gig crucial ddr 400) in this board. amd athlon 64 dual core 3800 processor. windows xp 32 sp2.

is it worth putting in another 2 gig of 2x1 gig crucial sticks @ £120.

i don't play games. i edit photos and watch big divx and codec'd movies, also do a lot of other imagey manipulation stuff. sometimes its a bit chuggy, is it worth putting in another 2 gig. someone in a different thread posted that win xp pro 32 can only use 3.2 gig, therefore shall i only purchase another gig?

any help appreciated.

any one else running 4 gig, how do you set it up to get the best performance? i currently have the sticks in the 1st and 3rd slots... ( i think)
