Mine was taking forever to load as well. I eventually discovered the problem could be fixed by switching to a PS/2 keyboard. Apparently it doesn't like my Apple USB Keyboard.Wingz said:just installed the P5K-E and have my Sata drives on port 1 & 2 but in the post screen it takes forever to dectect the drives what am i doing wrong?

Where do I find older BIOSes for it? Asus only lists the latest and the only other one I can find at a 3rd party is 0302 which exhibits the same issue. I should've tested it with 0202 before "upgrading."singh_uk said:Try flashing back to the original 0123 BIOS - that solved my blank screen/overclocking failed problem.

Awesome! Thanks for that.Wingz said:a person on the Hardforum uploaded his 0123 Bios
The Commando and the P5K Deluxe WiFi-AP Edition were awesome and quite noobie-friendly in the overclocking department. The ASUS Blitz Formula FAR eclipses what those two boards were capable of. Cooling the north bridge with the Nautilus 500 and using a Big Typhoon for the CPU I was able to reach an astounding 547MHz FSB.

even they are not that hot at stock, 32-45 idle depending on the ihs
Mansize_tissue said:Gadget13769, do you have any plans for overclocking. If so, then the Crucial Ballistix PC2-5300 would be a great choice; it can usually be overclocked to 450Mhz+, so you get quite a lot for your money.
beano said:Current idle temps with the q6600 are:
Tjunction: 100C
Core #0: 48C
Core #1: 48C
Core #2: 40C
Core #3: 43C
This is air cooled with a Tuiniq Tower (stock settings at present). Would you say it needs re-seating? I struggled like hell to get the damn thing on, so wouldn't be too surprised if it had messed the compound up.
When checking load temps, how long should you leave Prime running at 100%? I had around 79C for 15 mins, but had to go out, so stopped it.![]()
lay-z-boy said:Those are very high temps, when i first got my quad, i did some testing with my tuniq, got 35 idle and 50c quad prime after 50 mins with the fan on the lowest setting on the speed bracket.
Gadget13769 said:Yes, I'd heard that the 5300 Crucial was good for that - I may do some overclocking, but nothing extreme![]()
If not though, would I be better with some 8500?
Mansize_tissue said:Obviously it'll give better performance, but i don't think it's worth double the price (looking at how much OcUK are selling sets for). I mean, i can get my PC2-5300 to PC2-8500 frequencies relatively easily.

I have the English manual, but am I missing anything important / particularly helpful in this QS guide?

But, it has one annoying habit. The only way to get it to boot is to switch off the psu and restart. It then does this double shut down and reboot thing. Fires right up. Just shut down from windows or the button and it hangs. Tried all the strap settings, to my mind it looks like a strap reset. Frequency doesn't seem to make much difference, still does it. Is it the board? Or maybe the psu? I flashed the latest bios, put an older one on?
