just installed the P5K-E and have my Sata drives on port 1 & 2 but in the post screen it takes forever to dectect the drives what am i doing wrong?
Mine was taking forever to load as well. I eventually discovered the problem could be fixed by switching to a PS/2 keyboard. Apparently it doesn't like my Apple USB Keyboard.

Try flashing back to the original 0123 BIOS - that solved my blank screen/overclocking failed problem.
Where do I find older BIOSes for it? Asus only lists the latest and the only other one I can find at a 3rd party is 0302 which exhibits the same issue. I should've tested it with 0202 before "upgrading."

a person on the Hardforum uploaded his 0123 Bios

Awesome! Thanks for that. :)

I just got off the phone with Asus tech support (I was pleasantly surprised when a Canadian answered rather than someone from Bangalore). The nice gent had pretty much the same ideas I've had for what might the problem. His ultimate pronunciation was that the board is ****ed. Hopefully when the RMA is complete I'll have a good board rather than another $220 paperweight.

Review at [H] of the ASUS Blitz Formula SE

The Commando and the P5K Deluxe WiFi-AP Edition were awesome and quite noobie-friendly in the overclocking department. The ASUS Blitz Formula FAR eclipses what those two boards were capable of. Cooling the north bridge with the Nautilus 500 and using a Big Typhoon for the CPU I was able to reach an astounding 547MHz FSB.

Okay, I haven't built a new machine in a while, so bear with me... ;) I hope this is an acceptable place to post, bearing in mind the Mobo choice...

Here is my outline spec - any major observations / problems /suggestions?...

MOBO: Asus P5k Deluxe (obviously!)
OS: Vista HP 32
CPU: Quad 6600
COOLER: Noctua 12
CASE: Antec P182
PSU: Corsair HX6200
HD: Hitachi T7K500 500GB
DVD-R: Samsung SH-183LBEBN 18x Lightscribe
FLOPPY: Scythe Floppy / Card Reader Combo

GRAPHICS: ?

RAM: 2Gb of ?

Suggestions for the last two items welcome. I'm not a hardcore gamer - I mainly need pro level processing power for Photoshop and Sonar (music multitracker, for those who don't know), so a last generation card would be fine.

Crucial's website seems to recommend 5300 RAM - any thought?

Thanks in anticipation... :)

Gadget13769, do you have any plans for overclocking. If so, then the Crucial Ballistix PC2-5300 would be a great choice; it can usually be overclocked to 450Mhz+, so you get quite a lot for your money.

Q6600?

even they are not that hot at stock, 32-45 idle depending on the ihs

Current idle temps with the q6600 are:
Tjunction: 100C
Core #0: 48C
Core #1: 48C
Core #2: 40C
Core #3: 43C

This is air cooled with a Tuiniq Tower (stock settings at present). Would you say it needs re-seating? I struggled like hell to get the damn thing on, so wouldn't be too surprised if it had messed the compound up.

When checking load temps, how long should you leave Prime running at 100%? I had around 79C for 15 mins, but had to go out, so stopped it.

Yes, I'd heard that the 5300 Crucial was good for that - I may do some overclocking, but nothing extreme :)

If not though, would I be better with some 8500?

Those are very high temps, when i first got my quad, i did some testing with my tuniq, got 35 idle and 50c quad prime after 50 mins with the fan on the lowest setting on the speed bracket.

Updates to software/bios/problems and the board range should come later on today :)

I might need to look at that then, as my fan's up full!

Obviously it'll give better performance, but i don't think it's worth double the price (looking at how much OcUK are selling sets for). I mean, i can get my PC2-5300 to PC2-8500 frequencies relatively easily.

Thanks - I think I'm going with some 5300 then :)

I just got my P5K home from Overclockers and find that my 'Quickstart Guide' is in every language other than English!

I have the English manual, but am I missing anything important / particularly helpful in this QS guide?

Does anyone else notice that during bootup (at the beginning of the XP loading bars) there is no disk access for 3 seconds or so then disk access starts and boots fine, is it just something this board does?

Cheers

So started with the Blitz Formula, clocks fine. Running a Quad at 3.6GHz no effort at all.

But, it has one annoying habit. The only way to get it to boot is to switch off the psu and restart. It then does this double shut down and reboot thing. Fires right up. Just shut down from windows or the button and it hangs. Tried all the strap settings, to my mind it looks like a strap reset. Frequency doesn't seem to make much difference, still does it. Is it the board? Or maybe the psu? I flashed the latest bios, put an older one on?

Seems common with Asus, nothing to worry about though we get the full english manual.

Could you please keep me updated with your findings on the board as this is the board which seems ideal for my new build I hope to be undertaking soon. Both the pros and cons, thanks.
