**- Official Asus P5K Thread -**

Reset the bios to default, save and exit. Make sure the lan jack is clean as is the cable, make sure the cable works and try it with the stock dvd driver. If it doesn't work, send it back.

Could you give us any less information on the problem? :p
the "not plugged in" on the soundmax (onboard) sound card, i ve tried different headphones/speakers with no difference (i want to output my voicechat apps like ventrilo and skype on the headphones there)

Looks to me like you have the onboard sound as well as a sound card. <can be trouble.

You prolly need to set on or other as default device.

Programs like skype have a setting to use one or other sound device on the PC.

Try taking out the CMOS battery for a couple of minutes and put it back in, and see if it boots.

Thanks for that, phew!!! I was woried for a second

Another question I have 2 1gb 1066-ddr2 sticks of ram.

Is it best to insert them in to a1 and a2 or a1 and b1 ?

Many thanks

Got my beastie all up and running:

ASUS P5KC
E6750
2x1GB Crucial Ballistix 5300
BFG 8800GTS 640MB
Vista Ultimate

Runs pretty sweetly but am about to start down the oc path to see what I can get out of the E6750. Found a rather good set of overclocking instructions:
replace the stars with H E X U S
http://forums.*****.net/showthread.php?t=110267

Seeing as the CPU is an A model rather than a B I think I'm going to hit a top of about 3.5 - 3.6 but it should be an interesting process.

Just enabled my on-board audio (i have an xfi) and I get exactly the same as you.

The mic/line-in works with the xfi set as the master (default) in/out but i have to set the on-board as the default to get the outputs to work (the xfi still works)

If you've got two sticks, put them into slots of the same colour.

Just a quick note about the weird double boot thing when booting from cold with these boards. Found this on xtremesystems forum

"The Asus intel boards all do the double step boot when you have things set in a manner where the bios needs to set the strap when you power on or reboot. It is 100% normal."

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=145974&page=2

Did anyone else know about this?

Interesting eh?

That is interesting, I kind of accepted it but I did start to think it was common when I read more had it. This only happens to me if I turn the PSU off at the back, but since I never do this (unless I am of course changing something inside) its not really a prob.
