Could you please keep me updated with your findings on the board as this is the board which seems ideal for my new build I hope to be undertaking soon. Both the pros and cons, thanks.
Couldn't fix it. Flashed every bios, including a beta. Two PSU's, 2 different sticks, different slots. Every bios setting I could think of. Voltages way up, then down. Gave up, something wasnt right. The FSB voltage would overvolt on its own. Meh, its gone back DSR. P5K Premium on its way.

Is this the same problem like the old a8n-deluxe and a8n32-sli deluxe had where if it was over a certain FSB you had to hard reset it each time???

Sounds a real shame as the board looks like it could be quite decent and offer a lot of potential.

Just got my new PC up and running (specs in sig) - thanks to those who assisted.

Started first time, no probs. Vista installed in under 25 minutes, including disk format.

Running stock at the mo, as I have a rush work project. OC'ing later - watch this space! :)

Well the P5K Premium is up and running. No funny standby start issues or double restarts. It was a bit flaky to start with, cranked up the northbridge voltage at 400/450MHz and its fine. Runs cooler (8C lower) and has less droop (0.02v less) than the Blitz Formula. So runs prime with a notch lower vcore.

just got new rig which as follows
asus P5K3 Deluxe/\wifi-ap
Intel Core Duo E6750
Kingston HyperX 2048MB (2 x 1024MB) 1375MHz DDR3-SDRAM Unbuffered Non-ECC CL7 (7-7-7-20) DIMM
GeForce 8800GTS 320MB
been sort of playin around to see what it can do but new to OC and need more info before i do some real damage lol

First, welcome to OcUK, read the FAQ and you will be fine. :)

Second that's a nice system, there! Go into the bios and have a look around, familiarise yourself the the users manual, a good introduction to the working of the bios (and overclocking) in in the asus manual. :)

Got myself a P5K-E the other day for £99, as well as an E6750 and some Crucial Ballistix 667 RAM - just installing Vista now, but no problems so far, aside from having to flash the BIOS to get rid of a small CPU error message. Was very impressed that it worked with a USB flash drive though.

Hi guys, im running the 0404 latest release BIOS, whenever i change my memory settings from stock to tighten the timings when the PC powers on from Cold it powers on for a second, then off and back on again normally.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Cheers.

Yeah, mine does this sometimes. Also, if i mess around inside my case (take my sound card out and put it back in, for example) then turn it on, it powers on for a second, powers off, then on again and boots up.

Ah interesting. I just realised i could replicate it by cutting power to the board, putting the kettle lead back in again and trying to boot.

I realised it only does it when i set "AI Overclocking" to manual, which in turn lets me change the DRAM voltage. So if i leave that at "Auto" and just change the RAM timings its fine, for some reason on manual mode theres a setting in there it doesnt like, any ideas?

Cheers

I thought that might be what causes because even when i mess around in my case (after turning the PSU off) and don't take any components out, it still does the weird double boot thing.

OK, got a question: What settings/drivers are people using for their SATA hard-drives on these boards? I set mine to AHCI in the BIOS, then installed Vista. Everything seems OK, but I want to make sure I'm getting proper performance, and benefiting from NCQ and all of that.

Hmm, Raptor is just set to IDE; am i doing something wrong?

In Vista 64 on the Premium, I noticed some of the apps like coretemp and cpu-z would hang or take ages to load. Its completely stable, prime for 12hrs, memtest et al. It was a left over install from a Asus Blitz, so I thought i'd try a fresh install of Vista 64bit. Nightmare, it gets a few percent into copying files and just sits there, doing nothing. Tried Vista 32bit, same thing. XP Pro 32 bit, no problem goes straight in. And so far everything is as it should be, I had read this board didn't like Vista, but put it down to user error. Ive no idea whats going on , maybe its because I'm using an IDE CD-ROM on the Jmicron controller. I dunno, but some things not right.

EDIT: Spoke too soon. Fresh install of XP latest drivers, all new gear except for the CD-ROM. Spitting out timeout errors, when coping files.

"The device \Device\Ide\iaStor0 did not respond within the timeout period."

EDIT2: This Premium board doesnt like my IDE DVDRW either, put in a Sata drive and imstalled Vista 64. Didnt take long for it to start hanging again. Somethings wrong with the Sata ports.

EDIT3: Meh, just about had it with this board. Different hard drive, memory DVDRW, cables. Spitting out ATAPI errors now. Definitely a problem with the way it handles SATA/IDE. Two top of the range boards from Asus, both faulty not impressed.

I dunno...I read through the manual that came with the board and it seemed to suggest that IDE mode was there for compatibility and simplicity, but AHCI or RAID provided better performance and features.

Problem is, because Intel don't seem interested in offering a single installer with all the drivers we need (ala nVidia et al), so I have no idea if everything's as it should be or not.

ok, i've gone through ths thread, but mainly skim read im afraid... it'd take ages for me to search the whole thing, so i apologise if there is an answer to my boggle...

A mate has just got the p5k, q6600, 2gig ballistix.

1st off, his ide dvd drive was detected in bios, but no power going to it, tried another, powered fine, but not detected in bios... tried every possible angle, and he eventually gave up and bought a sata drive.. works, so he isntalls windows.

Gets into windows, installs the drivers from the disk... no lan :\ no lights, it's enabled in the bios, it definately isnt in network connections...

So, i'm currently getting him to update to latest lan drivers, and update to latest bios, if there is still no LAN after this, would you lot say it would be safe to return the board as faulty?

TIA
