Official Asus Rampage IV Extreme Thread

Ah shame, not interested in the EK. Been up all night looking in to this crap and the best blocks at the moment are:

XSPC Raystorm
Swiftech Apogee HD
Koolance CPU 370

But! Been looking in to this 1366 adapter pad/backplate with this board and it seems i should be ok using 1366 mountings. So getting the XSPC Raystorm and using it with my triple rad. If it dont fit i'm going to kill my neighbours with a spoon.

Been looking at the same short list as myself, quite fancy the Apogee HD (Its replacing the old Apogee) but nowhere has stock.

I got my system set up now and can confirm that all 1366 CPU blocks should fit this board because of the adapter plate! Thats a relief. So i wont be going on a killing spree... for now.

I also had a old Apogee (GTZ) but chose the Raystorm over the new Apogee HD because it's considerably cheaper but has the exact same performance. Plus i found places that actually had stock.

Overclocked to 4.6GHz at the moment with just 1.33v :) Will go higher when my new fans arrive. And i cant get RAID to work on this board... it just BSOD's!

@simulatorman dont suppose you've tried RAID on this board? Mine just BSOD's when i try to install Win 7 on a RAID array. But without RAID it's fine. I'll have to try that new 803 BIOS.

If you don't mind me asking MR.B what do you use that computer for? That spec is truly epic :)

3D modelling/rendering, video editing and design work with insanely high res images with tons of layers. So i actually make use of my hardware :) Although i do play games on it too. But still need faster to be honest, this system will probably take 4+ hours to do some of my renders..

No, I'm running from a 240GB Vertex 3 without any problems. I’ve not seen any RAID issues on other forums. I’d have a go with less memory installed. Certainly worth a try with 803 and maybe even 901.

well took the plunge and upgraded, getting close to the same setup as simulatorman.

be getting rid of rampage 3 extreme and 980x soon once its built.

looking forward to playing with it tonight.

Right, i found why i couldn't get Windows to install on my RAID - this board dont like 8 RAM sticks installed. It becomes unstable with more than 4 dimms, and others are reporting the same kind of problems as well when all the RAM slots are filled (crashing, cant install windows, post issues).

After messing around for AGES i fixed it by setting the memory voltage lower to 1.6v and also tightening the timings. By default the memory voltage was higher (1.67v) and the timings looser but this dont work, which is odd. The latest 0901 BIOS dont fix this problem either.

@simulatorman, i know you have the same memory as me so if you ever decide to get another 4 dimms of it then keep this in mind!

I've managed to get all 8 of my dimms (32GB) running slightly above it's rated speed, at 2154MHz, with it's rated timings. And using lower than it's recommended voltage. Not bad!

Mr B

What ram were you using as I ordered the wrong r and ordered the 32gn g skill ripsaw for ocul which should turn up today was that the same ram you used?

If so what timings did you use in the bios to get all 8 sticks working?

I've got G.Skill PC3-17000 RipjawsZ (model number: F3-17000CL9Q-16GBZH)

Timings are 9-11-10-28 with 1.6 voltage. Theres a beta BIOS here thats fixed the 8 dimms problem for some people but not tried it myself.

Well purchased this:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-065-GS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

But the board is only picking up 24 gig of it and not the full 32 gig, i checked in the bios and its picking up that all the slots and full but not picking it up in the main section of the board and only saying ive got 24 gig.

Any suggestions?

Ive tried the 901 bios and that didnt make any diffrence and i downgraded to the current offical bios which didnt make any diffrence either.

i did get a issue with one of my cards stop working when i was running the beta 901 bios.

is there any details regarding that beta bios just relctant to use it at the moment.

not sure what else to do.

Thats different RAM to mine.

But try using just 4 sticks, then try the other 4, and see if each time all 4 sticks are recognised. Just to make sure none of the RAM is faulty. Then you could try running Mem Test on all the RAM to be 100% sure.

The BIOS i linked was uploaded on the Asus forums by an Asus employee and he mentioned it has changes to the microcode which helps with memory compatibility with certain RAM. I'd link you but the forums down at the moment...
